The Vanguard 8x36 Spirit ED Binocular is a light roof prism model with ED glass lenses that are fully multicoated. The rubber armored housing comes in at an impressive ~1.3 lb, but doesn't skimp at all upon the optics. This is the choice for someone who values low weight and high optical quality over a more metal-based housing which weighs more but can be knocked around a bit.
Unlike a hunter's binocular, Vanguard has given the Spirit multicoatings which target the green color spectrum, for enhanced nature observation. The waterproof and fogproof Spirit has moisture-dispersing external coatings which help to shed precipitation quickly.
As an 8x36 model, this rather compact Spirit binocular provides a comfortable combination of 8x magnification, 7° field of view and 17mm of eye relief. It makes keeping a subject in the center of the binocular rather easy, and is a good choice for sporting events as well because of its pronounced depth of field.
