The Tamrac 5549 Adventure 9 Backpack (Red/Black) is a backpack that carries and protects a Pro digital or film SLR with a grip and a lens up to 5.0" attached, additional lenses, a flash, accessories and a laptop. The backpack has a lower section that is a completely foam-padded camera bag compartment and an upper section that functions like a traditional backpack to hold a light jacket, lunch or other personal items. Inside the top, a removable Pop-Off Pocket keeps AC adapters and laptop cords organized. A separate, completely foam-padded compartment provides quick access to a laptop (such as an Apple 17" PowerBook G4 and other laptops up to 17" without disturbing photo gear.

The 5549 main compartment features double zipper pulls that provide quick access to photo gear while a weather flap and quick-release buckles provide security and weather protection. Inside, foam pillars support the camera with lens attached, ready for action, while adjustable, foam-padded dividers protect other equipment. There is a front pocket that features the Memory & Battery Management System that uses red flags to identify which memory cards and batteries are available. The foam-padded lower camera compartment has a weather flap and quick-release buckle for security and weather protection.

The 5549 has two mesh pockets on the sides that provide quick access to accessories and water bottles. Two lash tabs on the bottom of the backpack can accommodate a compact tripod (requires accessory straps). It features the SA.S. (Strap Accessory System) attachment with points for customizing the bags with optional accessories.
