Key Features

  • Traditional Porro Prisms
  • 1860-Yard IR Laser Rangefinder
  • Mil-Scale Ranging Reticle
  • Fully Multi-Coated Optics

Designed for midrange tactical use by law enforcement, military, and other professionals professionals, and engineered to exacting military specifications for outstanding performance in challenging environmental conditions, the Steiner Optics 8x30 M830r LRF Military Rangefinding Binocular is engineered to be an invaluable addition to any operative who needs to stay fast and mobile. The optics are fully multi-coated to maximize light transmission through the light path, and the traditional Porro prism light path provides a rich depth of field that enables the observer to discern the relative position of subjects in the field of view. These features present the user with an immersive "3D" observational experience defined by bright and clear high-contrast views and accurate color rendition.

This model of the M830r is outfitted with an eye-safe infrared (IR) laser rangefinder (LRF) that can meter out to as far as 1860 yards using a simple 2-button user interface, and displays the distance in either yards or meters. With spot and scan modes available, users can take a single measurement or meter to multiple targets and track moving subjects with constantly updated ranges. Complementing the LRF is a mil-scale reticle designed as an analog back-up if the battery dies to enable fast and easy estimation of the range to subjects such as boats, buoys, game animals, and landmarks.

Steiner outfitted the optic with construction details that allow the binoculars to withstand the rigors of the outdoors. These details begin with Steiner's Sports-Auto-Focus System which allows the user to focus each eyepiece, just one time, and eliminates the need to refocus again regardless of how near or far the subject is - or if it is moving. The chassis is made of a lightweight and impact-resistant Makrolon polycarbonate material that is wrapped in an oil-, petroleum-, and chemical-resistant NBR synthetic rubber armor that offers improved grip security, especially in cold and wet weather. Its optical tubes are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof to a depth of 16 feet, and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature changes and environmental conditions. Designed for surveillance, reconnaissance, and other tactical uses, the M830r laser rangefinder is tripod mountable with an optional adapter.

Optical Performance

  • Moderate 8x magnification brings subjects in close for observation without sacrificing the field of view
  • Mid-sized 30mm objective lenses draws in more light than compact models without the bulk and weight of larger-objective versions
  • Traditional Porro prism optical path produces a rich depth of field to more easily discern the relative distances between objects in the field of view
  • Floating prism mounting system helps to absorb impacts to avoid damage and maintain optical path collimation
  • Anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics maximize light transmission, improve color rendition accuracy, enhance contrast, and improve clarity
  • Generous 319' field of view at 1000 yards

Laser Rangefinder

  • Invisible eye-safe infrared (IR) laser emitter
  • Measurements displayed in yards or meters
  • Metering range from 27 to 1860 yards (25 to 1700 meters)
  • Simple right-hand 2-button user interface
  • Spot mode for single range, or scan mode to meter to multiple points or track moving targets
  • Runs on one CR2 battery

Reticle Details

  • Uses hash marks and stadia lines with clear numbers every 10mm for estimating range to, and size of subjects such as game animals, boats, buoys, and people
  • Modified crosshair style places horizontal axis lower in the field of view to give more room on the upper vertical axis
  • Not recommended for estimating BDC

Use and Handling

  • Individually-focusing eyepieces enable precise tack-sharp views
  • ±5 dioptric correction range allows users to compensate for optical prescriptions to achieve sharper images
  • 56-74mm interpupillary distance adjustment range
  • Fold-down rubber eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear
  • Tripod mountable with optional adapter for hands-free use to eliminate vibration and arm fatigue
  • 20mm eye relief gives user the room to back off the eyepieces for more comfortable viewing with reduced eye strain, especially during long observation sessions
  • 3.75mm exit pupil covers most pupils as they open and dilated in low light
Sports-Auto-Focusing System:
  • Individual eyepiece focusing
  • Requires only one initial individual focus adjustment per user
  • Eliminates the need for refocusing for targets at ranges from 22 yards (20m) to infinity
  • Enables the tracking of fast targets without the need to refocus
