Designed for long-distance observations by law enforcement, military, and tactical professionals, and engineered to exacting military specifications for outstanding performance in challenging light and environmental conditions, the Steiner Optics 15x80 M1580c Military Binocular combines multiple technologies and features to ensure clear and crisp views from first light through to twilight and everything in between. This model is outfitted with a stabilized illuminated compass that shows bearings in-view so users can take readings while looking through the eyepieces for easier navigation and observation.

Its performance starts with the combination of powerful magnification and over-sized objectives. At 80mm the objectives draw in the copious amounts of light required for seeing in low light, or in heavy fog and cloud cover; while the 15x power brings distant subjects in close for detailed observations. The optics are fully multi-coated to maximize light transmission through the light path, with a wide angle of view to provide sweeping views despite the high power, while helping to minimize the discomfort often associated with using optics on rough or rolling seas. All of these features, when coupled with the traditional Porro prism light path, present the user with an immersive observational experienced defined by bright and clear high-contrast views and accurate color rendition.

Complementing the optical performance are construction details that allow the binoculars to withstand the rigors of the outdoors. These details begin with Steiner's Sport -Auto-Focusing System which allows the user to focus each eyepiece, just one time, and eliminates the need to refocus again regardless of how near or far the subject is - or if it is moving. The chassis is made of a lightweight and impact-resistant Makrolon polycarbonate material that is wrapped in an oil-, petroleum-, and chemical-resistant NBR synthetic rubber armor that offers improved grip security, especially in cold and wet weather. Its optical tubes are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof to a depth of 16 feet, and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature changes and environmental conditions. Because of the challenges posed by hand-holding large and powerful optics, Steiner includes a tripod adapter that clamps anywhere along the center stabilizer bar to steady the view and relieve arm fatigue.

Optical Performance
  • High 15x power greatly magnifies objects for detailed observation of distant objects
  • Large oversized 80mm objective lenses draw in copious amounts of light to ensure bright and clear images, while enhancing its low-light capabilities through the pre-dawn and dusk hours, and in heavy fog or cloud cover
  • Traditional Porro prism optical path produces a rich depth of field to more easily discern the relative distances between objects in the field of view
  • Floating prism mounting system helps to absorb impacts to avoid damage and maintain optical path collimation
  • Anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics maximize light transmission, improve color rendition accuracy, enhance contrast, and improve clarity
  • Wide 61° apparent angle of view provides sweeping views to complement the high-power, and helps to minimize the disorientation often associated with using high-power optics on rough or rolling seas
  • 213' field of view at 1000 yd
Compass
  • In-view compass bearings allow user to take readings without taking eyes away from optic
  • Illuminated for easier viewing in low-light conditions
  • Fluid-damped stabilization for higher precision, especially on rough seas
  • Runs on one included 1.5 V 350 battery
Use and Handling
  • Individually-focusing eyepieces enable precise tack-sharp views
  • Fold-down rubber eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear
  • 56-72mm adjustable interpupillary distance
Sports-Auto-Focusing System:
  • Individual eyepiece focusing
  • Requires only one initial individual focus adjustment per user
  • Eliminates the need for refocusing for targets at ranges from 22 yards (20m) to infinity
  • Enables the tracking of fast targets without the need to refocus
  • 11.2mm eye relief
  • 5.3mm exit pupil
Construction Details
  • Built to exacting military standard specifications with tight tolerances
  • Lightweight and impact-resistant Makrolon polycarbonate chassis
  • Center stabilizer bar adds rigidity and ensures optical tubes remain parallel for clearer views, and provides a strong attachment point for the included tripod adapter
  • Nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof to a depth of 16' (5m), and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature changes and environmental conditions
  • Oil-, petroleum-, and chemical-resistant NBR synthetic rubber armor offers improved grip security, especially in cold and wet weather
  • Raised ridges on armor improves grip security and stability
  • Includes tripod adapter to improve image stability for long-term observations, eliminate arm fatigue, and limit vibrations
  • Tethered one-piece ocular rainguard and objective lens covers to protect the lenses without the chance of losing them; can be placed anywhere along the stabilizer bar for proper balance
