The Sennheiser MKE 600 Shotgun Microphone and Auray Fur Windshield Kit from B&H is recommended for capturing audio in outdoor environments. It can be used with professional video cameras and camcorders in applications such as weddings, interviews, live events, and more.
The B&H kit features a Sennheiser MKE 600 shotgun microphone that runs either on battery or 48V phantom power, and an Auray WSS-2014 professional fur windshield that reduces wind noise up to 40 dB. Also included in the kit are a shockmount, a foam windscreen, and a carry pouch for transporting the microphone.
The MKE 600 from Sennheiser is a shotgun microphone designed for use with a camcorder or video DSLR. Building on the company's extensive expertise in designing shotgun microphones, it is able to take on even the toughest video sound challenges, while still being compact and short relative to previous models. With its high level of directivity, the microphone focuses on the sounds in front of the camera, while attenuating unwanted sound coming from the sides and rear.
An included foam windshield reduces the effect of wind noise, while a switchable low-cut filter adds additional wind and handling noise attenuation. The MKE 600 can be phantom powered or operated on an AA battery for about 150 hours. An integrated camera shoe and shock mount provides convenient on camera mounting. The rugged and all metal housing means the microphone will function perfectly in outdoor recording situations.
The Auray WSS Series Professional Windshields deliver superior 360° wind protection with acoustic transparency. They are engineered for dramatic reduction of unwanted broadband wind noise and vocal pops with very little high frequency loss, for exceptionally accurate recordings.
This WSS-2014 Professional Windshield has an inside depth of 14cm and is designed for use with many shotgun microphones. It features a specially manufactured open-cell foam matrix surrounded by a layer of 25mm-thick simulated rabbit fur. This diffusion technology lowers wind velocity in a controlled air space around the microphone, thereby reducing wind noise without muffling the sound. It also features an airtight tapered rubber base that seals out wind from the rear of the microphone, greatly improving isolation and rear wind protection.
When used on a shotgun microphone, this slip-on windshield is effective in minimizing wind noise and plosive sounds. It is most effective in light breeze to strong breeze conditions (4-25 mph) and users can generally expect a 24dB to 40dB reduction in wind noise with negligible dampening of high frequencies. For most applications, the negligible high frequency dampening is a worthwhile exchange for the dramatic wind noise reduction.
In addition to superior 360° wind protection, the WSS-2014 helps prevent moisture and dirt from damaging your microphone. The windscreen is designed to fit microphones from Audio-Technica, Neumann, Røde, Sanken, Sennheiser and others.
The WSS-2014 Professional Windshield for Shotgun Microphones is an advanced solution for outstanding wind protection with acoustic transparency.
