Nikon 20mm f/1.8G ED AF-S NIKKOR Lens (Nikon Malaysia)

The AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED from Nikon is a wide-angle lens that is compatible with both full frame FX and DX crop sensor cameras. The fast f/1.8 maximum aperture allows a shallow depth of field for selective focus use, as well as shooting in low-light situations.

The lens provides a 94° angle of view (30mm, 70° equivalent on DX-format cameras), and has a minimum focus distance of 7.8", allowing you to get close to your subject while isolating it from the background.

Two aspherical and two Extra-low Dispersion elements with Nano Crystal Coating reduce sagittal flare and chromatic aberration, producing sharp images throughout the frame. Nikon's Rear Focusing System eliminates change in physical length of the lens when focusing. A Silent Wave Motor provides quick, near-silent autofocusing. A soft pouch and lens hood are included.

Providing review based on the premise that I'm using the D700 FX, so these are the opinions as such of an user. If you are on a budget and can't spring for the 14-24mm f/2.8 and you need a wide lens with AF-S, then look no further. If you really need the 14mm, start saving. PLUS: The lens is sharp even at f/1.8, stopped down to f/8 is stunning for landscape photography. f/1.8 is more than fast enough for use for lowlight photography especially with the short focal length, handheld at the shutter speed of 1/8 f/1.8 has nice and buttery smooth bokeh and some subject isolation especially when focused close to the subject. Focus is quick with the AF-S, internal focusing and silent. Distortion is not noticeable unless you are shooting brick walls. Very minor light fall off at f/1.8. The size of the lens is sized well especially paired up with the D700, and weighs nicely with the body (as compared to having the AF 50mm f/1.8D) Low weight and good size of lens greatly improves the ergonomics of the D700 lens-body combination. MINUS: Some focus breathing, meaning the magnification/focal length changes as it focuses from the minimum focus distance to infinity. It is annoying if you take videos, but Hey! the D700 don't have video! Made in China? but plenty of new Nikon lenses are made in China, even the 200-500mm. Depends if you care much about where it is made. Overall, with it's relatively low price and stellar performance and specifications, with a fast aparture, wide angle focal length, sharp even wide open, and low weight. Makes a great prime lens to supplement a 50mm.
