My Canon
My first Canon was the EOS 1000f from my father. I brought that camera to a Camera Highland trip, but end up having photos unexposed due to sticky shutter. Oil was detected on the shutter blades leads to sticky shutter and unopened exposure in most of my photos. That makes me bought my first very own SLR and I chose a Nikon.
After getting into photography for a few years, bought many expensive toys and I started looking for some good professional lenses. In Nikon, they are the AFS 80-200mm f/2.8, AFS 28-70mm f/2.8, AFS 17-35mm f2.8. These lenses are my dream lenses but their prices are just too much for me to afford.
In Canon, the professional L lenses (17-35mm L, 28-70mm L, 70-200mm L non IS) that are equivalent to Nikon AFS professional lenses are selling at around 10~15% lower new in shop, and 20~30% lower in the 2nd hand market. That makes me tempted to change to a Canon system. Furthermore, Canon EOS 1 series cameras are also selling at a very tempted price with technology that is only better than Nikon. To get the best BANG for the BUCKS, I decided to give Canon a try but not giving up my Nikon system yet (there are still good reasons to own the Nikon ~ the feel and manual system).
For the price of Nikon F4, I bought myself a Canon EOS 1n. Focusing is fast, features are upto what Nikon F100 can deliver. The only problem is the FEEL. Plastic body doesn't impressed me for the $$$ that I have paid. 2nd hand EOS 1n is around RM1800 at in Dec 2004, and price will only get more and more attractive (read lower) with the popularity of Digital SLR now. In the year of 2003 and 2004, if I remember correctly...I have bought myself at least 2 EOS 1n and 2 EOS 1 bodies...some with Power Booster and some are just the body only. From Like New in Box condition to around 80% new. A good deal of EOS 1 body that I just bought recently was priced at just RM500 (plus another RM10 for POSLAJU), but the viewfinder LCD has a little problem with the wording, still...I find that price is a steal (for a camera that was once the TOP MODEL in Canon)! Another good deal that I have concluded for an EOS 1 is at S$850 for a like new in box EOS 1 + Canon EF 20-35mm f/2.8 L (with B+W slim cir-PL). Almost bought myself an EF 100-400mm L IS lens but couldn't get enough $$$ for it (S$1.5k offered by the seller, he later sold at S$1.8k).
Lenses of Canon that I have owned are:
1. EF 50mm f/1.8 (my first lens together with the EOS 1000f)
2. EF 20-35mm L f/2.8
3. EF USM 50mm f/1.4 (owned two at different time)
4. EF 22-55mm
