I have wanted to change the letters, emblem and logo of my Volvo P1800 since day 1.
Volvo letters were changed in Dec 2022.
I thought about getting a new 1800S emblem, priced at US$70, undecided. I have been browsing ebay for years, can hardly find good condition 1800S emblem. Then I stumbled upon a really good condition unit last month, negotiated the price with the seller and closed the deal at US$15. Saved some money and it is the original genuine Volvo emblem, which I am really happy with.
Besides the 1800S emblem, I also bought a Volvo front grill emblem for my Volvo, but later only I found that it is not compatible for my P1800 front grill. Nevermind, keep it for next project.
The previous owner painted the emblem quite badly, so I wanted to replace it with a more nice looking one. While removing the old emblem from the car, I found that the old emblem was missing all the 4 pins, or should I say they are all broken. It was secured using double sided tape, hence making the emblem stuck out from the body. By right it should fit snugly onto the curvature of the body, without any double sided tape in between. Luckily the paint was great, not damaged by the double sided tape. I cleaned the residual with my Turtle paint polishing fluid.
The used one that I bought has all 4 pins intact, but missing the locks. Some black and silver paints chipping, so I bought two black and silver paint markers to correct it. Of course it is not perfect, as it is more than 50 years old (from the 60s), but it does looks great on my car vs the previous one. Don’t over correct it with paint or spray paint.
Below is the new old emblem that I installed. You can see from the photo it attached perfectly to follow the curvature of the body. With the new Volvo letters, they look perfect from the back now!
