Was looking around for another Volvo, dreaming for the coupe version of 123GT, but also looking around for a 122S.
Price at mudah.my seems pretty high, mostly at above RM40k.
Checked some end users direct selling at Facebook forum or marketplace, normally around RM20-30k.
There is a nice number one available that I saw recently, seller has been trying to sell since a year ago but still not yet sold. Maybe he is not desperate. Plate number CA330, which attracts me more than the car itself.
The green is bright, not really to my liking but is still OK. Seller asking for RM28k including the plate number, which I think is a good deal.
Interior might need a new upholstery as from the video, I can see the driver seat top part is already tear off.
A bit tempted to buy, as I think can make some profit few years later when selling off. Price shall go up and up for this classic car.
Update on 08 Feb 2022
Got a message from the seller, asking if I am still interested in the car. In fact, yes I am still interested, but haven’t gotten the time to check it out.
I viewed through the video again and below are the parts which I think need attention for improvements.
- Wrong side mirror. A set (left & right) original Volvo side mirror will cost RM1000.
- Windshield water nozzle looks like oversprayed with paint. RM100.
- There are two extra holes on the front bumper. I think those are for fog light installation. A set of Hella lights will cost around RM800.
- Door and window cranks seems to be wrong. Not sure if can still get replacement of 4 sets. Assuming if can, it will still cost another RM1000.
- Upholstery of the whole car, estimate RM4000.
- Some holes and missing buttons in the car, not sure what are missing.
- dashboard front cover is missing. This might be tough to find or get from oversea (due to size).
- There is supposed to be a hole for radio.
- Some rusts on the car, and green is not really my liking. A respray of the whole car might cost around RM5000.
- The brake master pump is at the wrong location, but will be hard to move as there is an air filter blocking the way and maybe the air cond compressor is in the way as well.
- Fuel filter will need to be changed.
- Spark plug cables will need to be changed as well.
Got another set of photos from the seller.
Volvo 120S instruments panel.
Contacted the owner yesterday to get some photos / video of the engine compartment.
In Facebook Amazon group, a member from Malaysia shared his Volvo 122S engine compartment, looks really clean and neat and ORIGINAL.
For easier comparison, I did a merge of the two photos into one.
Update 07 March 2022 (Monday)
Finally got the chance to visit the seller / car yesterday. It was a hot afternoon at around 3.30pm. Got the see the car inside out, started the engine and check the floors.
In short, the car is in pretty bad shape. Many work to be done and many parts need to be changed.
These are the photos I took of the car during the visit.
Previously I wrote a list of repair at the following, but now the list will need to extend much further…starts at 13…
- Wrong side mirror. A set (left & right) original Volvo side mirror will cost USD100 each, times 2. RM1000.
- Windshield water nozzle looks like oversprayed with paint. RM100. (No need now, as I found the existing one still in chrome good shape)
- There are two extra holes on the front bumper. I think those are for fog light installation. A set of Hella lights will cost around RM800. (RM500 should be OK to get Hella Classic Chrome Fog Lights)
I noticed that the brake master is not original. Buying a set of brake master and brake booster will cost around USD500 before shipping. That’s RM2500.
- Fuel filter will need to be changed. RM50.
- Spark plug cables will need to be changed as well. RM100.
- Alternator seems to be too small. I suspect it won’t supply enough current to the car. New replacement unit RM400.
- Air cond is faulty. Estimate RM500.
Update
Found a photo of the car dated back to 12 July 2016, captured at Air Putih.
That’s nearly 6 years ago, and the car looks great!
