Bought an USED Apple iMac today. Seller from Selangor and upgraded to the latest iMac M1 24″, so is selling away his Intel version iMac 27″. According to him, the new M1 is faster.
We called GDEX to do a reverse pickup from the seller’s place yesterday. This gave convenient to the seller so he doesn’t have to carry the big box to courier center, and the cost / risk is bared by us.
We received the parcel from GDEX at around 4pm. Quickly I did the unboxing and did some testing and checking. Everything looks good, and the condition looks new.
The previous owner has reset the iMac, this is very important as if it is an stolen apple computer, you won’t be able to reset it without knowing the username and password.
I did black green and white screen check on the monitor, to ensure that there is no dead pixel or colour bleeding problem.
The internet speed seems to be quite slow in my office. Need few hours to update the OS, so I went hope and leaving the computer there overnight. Will check it out tomorrow.
By the way, I already have an iMac at home. Bought in 2017. This newly bought USED iMac is 2020 model, albeit it is an Intel i5 processor, but it is a newer 10th generation model and comes with 6 cores. The previous owner paid RM13113 for it, with 32GB memory and 1TB storage. This is nice!
Below are the comparisons in specs of this “new” 2020 model vs mine 2017 model.
2020 iMac 27″ Intel i5
The iMac “Core i5” 3.1 27-Inch Aluminum (Retina 5K, 2020/Comet Lake) features a 14-nm “Comet Lake” 3.1 GHz Intel “Core i5” processor (I5-10500) with six independent processor “cores” on a single chip, a 12 MB shared level 3 cache, a T2 Security Chip, 8 GB of easy to upgrade 2666 MHz DDR4 SDRAM, a 256 GB onboard SSD, and a Radeon Pro 5300 graphics processor with 4 GB of dedicated GDDR6 video memory. It also has a built-in 1080p “FaceTime HD” webcam, a studio-quality three-mic array, and stereo speakers.
2017 iMac 27″ Intel i7
The iMac “Core i7” 4.2 27-Inch Aluminum (Retina 5K, Mid-2017/Kaby Lake) features a 14-nm “Kaby Lake” 4.2 GHz Intel “Core i7” processor (7700K) with four independent processor “cores” on a single chip, an 8 MB shared level 3 cache, 8 GB of easy to upgrade 2400 MHz DDR4 SDRAM, a 1 TB or 2 TB Hard Drive+SSD “Fusion” drive, and either a Radeon Pro 575 graphics processor with 4 GB of VRAM or a Radeon Pro 580 graphics processor with 8 GB of VRAM. It also has a built-in “FaceTime HD” webcam and stereo speakers.
Although one is i7, but it is the older generation intel processor, so performance wise the newer i5 with 6 cores seems better.
