For many years, photographers round the world have been wanting a good, low distortion wide angle lens for wide angle photography on the 35mm full frame bodies. Due to the quality (high distortion at the edges) of wide angle zoom lenses, most photographers have to resort to crop sensors DSLR bodies to cut out the extreme edges on the pictures to make the images look presentable. There were very few wide angle lenses in the market that give quality and low distortion images at an affordable price.

From the makers of Legendary Carl Zeiss ZF, ZE, ZM, ZK, ZS lenses, Cosina/Voigtlander has released a New Wide Angle lens: 20mm/f3.5 SL-II Aspherical.

Ultra-low distortion, this wide angle gives a picture angle of 94° (on full frame). Compact with full metal construction, superbly built, this lens is built to perform extremely well in the field.

Ideal for architecture, landscape & interior photography applications, the 20mm/f3.5 SL-II is also well suited for travel photography where close portraiture and high depth of field situations is required.

Infinity focus beyond 2m at f3.5, the 20mm/f3.5 lens has built in zone focusing scale which makes this lens easy to use & ideal for street photography shooting without the need to bring the camera to the eye level for focusing.

CPU coded, this lens can be used on ALL digital Nikon bodies with FULL Metering & AE mode. You can set the aperture f stop on the command dial of the camera body. With half press of the shutter button, the AF confirmation LED in the viewfinder lit up when the subject is in focus.

The new digital focusing technique on manual focus lens on the DSLR bodies is even easier and more intuitive than the traditional split image focusing method:

1. Half press on the shutter release button.
2. Turn the focusing ring on the lens.
3. Once the subject is in focus, the focus confirmation button will lit up.
4. Snap and you have a razor sharp image with the manual focus lens.

Focusing is more precise than the AF lenses where critical focusing is required.

Lens work just as well on older generation manual Nikon F bodies too. In fact, die hard film users like me, will find the extremely well built 20mm/f3.5 lens a superb street shooter companion.
