The DMC-FX700 has a Leica DC Vario-Summicron Lens high-quality lens with 24mm ultra wide-angle and 5x optical zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 24-120mm). This high-quality lens boasts an astonishing brightness of f/2.2. It lets the DMC-FX700 shoot at higher shutter speed and capture stunningly clear, sharp, blur-free images in lower lighting situation. Together with the anti-blurring function in the iA Mode, the DMC-FX700 never allows any subject to be blurred. The lens unit consists of 7 elements in 6 groups with 3 aspherical lenses with 5 aspherical surfaces. In addition to the 0.3mm super thin aspherical lens and 0.3mm thin spherical lens, another aspherical lens is designed to be as thin as 0.4mm, which results in the realization of f/2.2 brightness and 24mm ultra wide-angle of view at the same time. This advanced lens unit passes Leica's stringent standards and delivers an exceptional optical performance with its minimal distortion and chromatic aberrations while suppressing ghosting and flaring.

The 24mm ultra wide-angle lens - rare on a compact camera - gives you a wider range of composition possibilities with approx. 213% larger viewing space compared to that of 35mm camera. The lens minimizes distortion at the wide end.

The DMC-FX700 features a 5x optical zoom range (35mm camera equivalent: 24-120mm). This gives you highly natural expressions from people and animals that you can't get close to. The 5x optical zoom can be increased its power to 6.5x equivalent with the Intelligent Zoom function taking advantage of the Intelligent Resolution technology maintaining the picture quality even using digital zoom. • Intelligent ISO Control - Motion Detection

The Intelligent ISO Control function detects subject movement and automatically adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed to best suit the movement and light conditions. When it detects subject motion, it automatically raises the ISO setting and increases the shutter speed to prevent motion blur. On the other hand, when the subject is still and no movement is detected, it takes beautifully natural photos with a low ISO setting.

• Face Detection AF/AE with Face Recognition

The DMC-FX700 features the Face Recognition, a function that "remembers" faces. Register the person from the menu by taking his/her full-face portrait with his/her name. Once complete, if the familiar face appears into your frame again, the camera will display the name you specified for that person and prioritize focus and exposure so that the registered face is bright and in sharp focus. Up to 3 persons' names can be displayed at once. In playback, you can choose to display only photos that contain a specific registered face using the Category Playback.
