The Hasselblad CFV-39 Digital Back is a sophisticated imaging sensor for Hasselblad's classic V-series body mount, able to fit upon a collection of cameras spanning 6 decades as well as upon large format cameras made to work with the Hasselblad V back. Much more than just an impressive pixel count, the CFV-39 delivers to professionals images which are a cut above the very best available in 'full frame' cameras, and takes advantage of the high resolution found in the Hasselblad V system lenses.
The CFV-39's large 36.7 x 49mm 39-megapixel CCD is capable of capturing details, particularly in skin tone, that are impossible with smaller system cameras and able to display a difference in a print for any observer. Skin tones are delicate by nature, and our observations of those tones are subjective, but the CFV-39 is sublime in its capacity to "nail" skin tones with a lifelike capture. The CFV-39 also has an awesome ability to capture a large range of exposure values in a scene, giving real 'punch' to daylight images without bulletproof shadows or washed-out highlights that are the unfortunate hallmark of smaller cameras.
The CFV-39's got some cool and practical touches in the software department, too. Hasselblad's created their own specific color profile ("Hasselblad RGB") and unprocessed file format ("3F RAW", or 3FR) to give simple perfect coloring no matter what your subject. They've also got their own Phocus digital correction profiles for 10 various Hasselblad lenses (at this writing the CF/CFE 40 FLE, CFE 40 IF, CFi 50 FLE, CFi/CFE 80, CFi/CFE 120, CFi 150, CFE/CFE 180, CFi 250, CFE 250 Sa, & CFE 350 Sa) and with more to come. Phocus accounts for and adjusts a lens' linear distortions, lateral chromatic aberrations, and vignetting.
The CFV-39 records to (and includes) a CompactFlash card, or can be tethered to both a Mac and a PC computer.
