Generate more CLICKS from Adsense? How?

Posted on March 2nd, 2009 by KhoKing.

I have been using Adsense for over a year, on the biggest photography forum in Malaysia - www.photomalaysia.com.

Performance of Adsense has been quite disappointing to me. There are less than 50 clicks per day (we have around 7000-9000 unique visitors per day). No, publisher is NOT allowed to invite his/her members to click on the ads, that will lead to your account being terminated.

I have heard story of bloggers getting USD1000 or even more per month from Adsense. I only get about USD120 per month. What went wrong?

I am still experimenting different ads banners and locations. Recently I introduced 250×250 px square banner to my forum and I noticed some increment in clickthrough. I need to experiment more…but if you have some tips or experience to share, please post a reply. Thanks! :)

Google Adsense now with FLASH ads!

Posted on July 10th, 2008 by KhoKing.

Yes, you read the title right. I just noticed few days ago that Google is now delivering FLASH banner ads to their customers! Yes, that includes me.

Flash ads has been so popular and common in advertising world nowadays. Small file size but able to deliver amazing effect and attract much more attention than static or GIF animated ads.

No, not all sites are now flashed, it depends if an advertiser wants to put his or her flash ads on your site or not. I guess the price for flash ads isn’t going to be cheap…but the gain back is definitely worth it.

Let’s hope more will notice the ads…good for both advertiser and publisher. :)

Google Adsense Payment - 2nd time

Posted on April 2nd, 2008 by KhoKing.
Categories: Family.

I checked my bank account today and got payment from Google Inc.

This is the 2nd payment I received from Google Adsense revenue.

This time Google Adsense paid me US$145.92 (two months worth of ads), but due to the poor exchange rate recently (poor USD), I only got JPY14,377 to my bank account.

Revenue from Adsense is increasing, though not much but steadily increased. I shall get another payment in April. :)

My advice to those who are using Adsense:

  • Try to show as many ads as possible in your site. However, take note that maximum ads to be shown is THREE (3) on a page. So, don’t put more than 3 Adsense banners in your page.
  • Do not mess up your website. Don’t make your site like a like ads hell. The last thing you want to see is your members or visitors got fedup or pissed off and leave your site and went to a better one.
  • Put your ads clearly and neatly. Don’t try to trick your members into clicking the ads. Make it clear and arrange them neatly in your website.
  • Use image ads. Yes, a picture is worth a thousand words. An attractive image ads will attract your members to click. Image ads will make your site more lively as well.
  • Be patient and do not give up. My initial revenue is not even US$0.50 a day. Now I can get around US$3 a day or more. Still not much, but I can see it growing slowly but steadily… :)

No, Adsense can’t survive me. However, it can be a pretty happy bonus. :D

Highest per day earn from Adsense!

Posted on March 2nd, 2008 by KhoKing.
Categories: Computer / IT.

This is the highest per day earned money from Adsense in my account after nearly a year of “rejoining” Adsense!

(in USD)

Date Earnings
Thursday, February 28, 2008 $7.67

My average per day earning in February 2008 is still just $2.59…yeah…quite low and little…cannot survive with just $2.59 (USD) per day…

Compared to many…this is probably still a joke! I read some “professionals” are earning thousands USD per month…mine? Not even US$100 per month… :P

Slowly…patiently…waiting for Google Adsense to feed my daily meals… :D

Google Payment

Just updated by bank book in Japan and noticed that Google has paid me! Yeah…money from the Adsense ads. :)

How much? Not much…only US$100+ and the conversion rate to JPY is very poor now (weak USD).

The good thing about Google in Japan is that you can have Google deposit the money directly to your bank account. No need to receive check, just update your Google account with a valid Japan bank account, Google will then deposit a small amount of money (in my case JPY120) and you will have to answer the question of the exact amount in your Google account later. This is to verify your bank account is really belongs to you…and yes, you get the FREE JPY120. :D

My earning from Google Adsense is actually very minor…the USD100+ was accumulated since more than 3 months ago…and only till early Jan I was able to hit over USD100, and Google paid me end of the month on 30th Jan 2008. Yes, you have to have over USD100 before you can withdraw the money.

No…don’t try to cheat and click on your own ads. This will result your account being suspended. As Google motto says…”Don’t be evil!”

Happy Chinese New Year too to all the Chinese and those who are celebrating the Spring in the world! :D

Microsoft wants to buy Yahoo!

Posted on February 4th, 2008 by KhoKing.
Categories: Computer / IT.

Yes…you read it right. In fact, this is not the first time…last year Microsoft offered to buy Yahoo! as well, but was turned down by Yahoo!. Now, Microsoft tries it again after the old CEO just stepped down (due to poor performance in directing Yahoo!).

Is Yahoo! for sale? Is Google for sale?

Yahoo is not performing well…in fact, you can use the word BAD. The reason is simple, Google. People are switching to Google for their internet browsing and using habit. I use Gmail now as my main email (Google space outgrow my email growing space), Gchat for chatting (not the only one though, together I use Live Messenger as well as Skype), Google Earth when I need to find a location, Analytics for my website statistics, Adsense to get some $, etc. Eh…I left out the most important one…I use Google to SEARCH!

How about Yahoo!? I don’t use Yahoo Messenger nowadays, I don’t use Yahoo mail nowadays…I don’t use Yahoo to search nowadays…Yahoo? Hmm…I don’t remember using any Yahoo service now.

So…is Yahoo dieing? Not yet…but I believe Yahoo is definitely in trouble. Microsoft sees it. In fact, Microsoft is worrying that they might be the next Yahoo and get swallow up by Google…so they want to get Yahoo now in order to retain some market share to fight the “don’t be evil” Google.

How much? US$44 billions. I don’t know exactly how much that is…but I remember Youtube was sold at US$1.65 billions few years ago by Google. I guess Microsoft should have bought Youtube…as it is definitely the most successful online video sharing site nowadays. Yes, I use Youtube service. When Google bought Youtube, many asked if Google overpaid…but now it seems cheap to me (seeing how much influence Youtube has on the internet).

Back to Yahoo…so is it sold? Not yet, for now. Yahoo share up nearly 50% after Microsoft announced the buying news. Those insiders must be laughing all the way to the bank now… :P

Rumors that Yahoo might seek other buyers alternatives, e.g. Apple. Yes, I think Apple has a more healthy image than Microsoft…and people like Apple. Yahoo + Apple = New Life. Steve Job is definitely one of the smartest guy in the world. With him guiding Yahoo, there might still be chance to survive. Microsoft? They can’t even survive on their own now…not sure how they can inject new life into Yahoo.

By the way…Yahoo…if you are listening…you should launch your Publisher Network to people outside USA. I have been waiting for more than a year…and you still not including internet users from other country to join. There are many people who can’t use Adsense, or have been banned by Adsense, they want alternative and I am sure Yahoo is the best alternative to Google. You should grab this chance, opportunity…but after one year waiting…you are still not progressing. What a shame…what a disappointment… :(

Google Adsense Experience…3 months later…

Posted on January 3rd, 2008 by KhoKing.
Categories: Computer / IT.

I have restarted Google Adsense in September 2007 - this time for real and of course, with all honesty. :) Do not click on the ads yourself! :(

Site…

My main site that listed my Adsense content is PhotoMalaysia.com. I am the co-founder of PhotoMalaysia.com, so I have full control over it for the ads and daily operation of it. Of course, also because I now take the burden of funding the server rental cost, which hit over RM5k or US$1.5k a year.

Back to Adsense…I would like to share with you some of my experience of how I notice the increase in revenue after I make some changes to the placement and contents of my Adsense ads.

Miracle Skyhigh Profit? Dream on…

Initially, I have high expectation from Adsense. After hearing and reading lots of success stories with Adsense, I was hoping that PhotoMalaysia can generate high income for me after I put up Adsense there. I was wrong…at least initially.

Do not expect your members to click ads in your site if you do not place them strategically. Warning: DO NOT ASK OR PROMOTE OR INVITE YOUR MEMBERS TO CLICK ON THE ADS! THIS IS NOT RIGHT AND ILLEGAL AND WILL RESULT YOUR ACCOUNT BEING TERMINATED!

My Statistics

My revenue from Adsense in September (starts from 5th September 2007) is just US$15.78, with total 293 clicks and 235,263 page impressions. For me, this is quite disappointing since I was hoping to get hundreds of dollars from Adsense. So I did not work further with Adsense in October and November, since I thought Adsense did not help much…so I might as well try selling ads myself.

September 2007 revenue:

  • Total earning (USD): US$15.78

October 2007 revenue:

  • Total earning (USD): $28.82

Yeah, October is better than September by nearly double! But still…not much… :P

November 2007 revenue:

  • Total Earning (USD): $25.05

Hmm…less than October…seems like it is going to be static at average US$2x.xx if I am not going to do anything.

Another reason for me to go back to Adsense is because selling ads yourself isn’t easy. I don’t get many advertisers myself…and my ads are selling at low price too. So, might as well try Adsense again…since many have successful story with it.

One thing I notice in Adsense report is Page Impressions. It tells you how many times the ads is being served at your site. Put it in simple way, the higher the impression, the more frequent the ads being shown at your site. The more frequent the ads being shown, the higher chance people will click on it. Also take note that while the total click for November is less than September, but I got higher revenue in November because I got higher page impression in November.

So, I come to a simple and short conclusion: I should put more ads in strategic locations in PhotoMalaysia.com.

More ads yes…but what about strategic locations?

Have you seen websites with lots of ads and are mainly driven by Adsense than the content of the websites themselves? Yes, there are many. As a visitor, I immediately got put off by those ads driven sites. I don’t want PhotoMalaysia to be like that. I don’t want to hit my members with lots of ads and making them angry or feel distracted. Ads should serve its purpose of attracting customers but not frustrating viewers.

Do remember that a forum is driven by members, not the otherwise. Your forum will not be forever hot and active if you pushed your members away.

With that in mind, I carefully choose locations for my ads. Of course, Adsense ads are pretty nice looking and doesn’t really make people vomit. The best thing I like about Adsense is how relevant the ads is to your website. No gambling or porn ads as well. Definitely good and suitable for my photography forum. :)

So, in December I have added some new Adsense ads toPhotoMalaysia.com. You can check out my ads location in PhotoMalaysia.com, must easier than having me describe each and everyone here. :) In general, for high hit pages, I put ads on top, bottom and sometimes middle (for those lengthy page). Frame up my ads so that they melt and look nice with the website.

So…how is my December revenue?

December 2007 revenue:

  • Total Earning (USD): $37.61

Yeah, hit over US$3x.xx. Better than the previous few months.

Now, starting year 2008…I have added up some extra ads locations, mainly in the Photography section (Gallery) in PhotoMalaysia. We got quite a number of hit in Photography, so hopefully it will drive more members to Adsense. :)

Another note to Publisher. I notice that Image ads though is more attractive, but it can only serve ONE ads per time in that particular space. So, it is good to have multiple ads in some high hit pages with both image and text ads (I set my site to let Adsense determine it for me).

Final words…(temporary)

I must admit that I am still very new to Adsense. There are still lots of things for me to learn and find out, which can only be learn through experience. I will report and post my findings from time to time…sharing this most successful and largest ads campaign in the internet ever (period). :)

Why Google Adsense is BETTER?!

Posted on July 25th, 2007 by KhoKing.
Categories: Computer / IT.

Google, being the biggest and most popular search engine in the market nowadays, is also the first company that introduce text ads to all online users to generate money on their sites.

Google Adsense, which can be seen EVERYWHERE, as everybody is joining the $$$ wagon trying to get money from the internet. Some can generate more than US$1k a month…or even US$10k a month!

Few years after Adsense introduction, many companies start offering similar type of ads to publishers and advertisers. However, the market is already dominated by Google Adsense…so it is hard for others to shaken the base. Internet nowadays is first come first won. If you got the new idea and is the first one to implement it…most likely you will be the KING or winner in the market. Youtube being a good example, though Google has its own Google Video, but still Youtube is more popular and Google has chosen to buy out Youtube at US$1.6 billions (Youtube was still less than 2 years old by then).

Now, back to Adsense. Why is Adsense better and still the preferred ads by most? Here’s my personal experience and opinion:

1. Google being a search engine knows more about your site than others. They send relevant ads to your site which are most appropriate and match the content of your site better.

2. Google doesn’t allow inappropriate ads to be shown. There is no gambling ads, no porn ads, no sexuality ads…etc. You can be sure that your ads and site are still being as healthy as before.

3. Speed. Adsense load up time is MUCH MUCH faster than some other small company ads that I have tried (bidvertisers and adbrite). There is almost no delay when I put Adsense on my site. All contents still loads up smoothly. However, when I activated bidvertisers or Adbrite ads, there is a significant few seconds delay to have the ads shown before other contents on the site are being load up. This has forced me to put Bidvertisers and Adbrite ads on the last content to be load up on my site, so that visitors and members will not felt that my site is slow. See: http://pentaxworld.com

4. Easy to use. Adsense is very easy to setup and use. I can get my ads running in less than a minute, though signing up a new account requires a day or two for approval process. Configuring the right ads for your site is also very very easy. You can customize the colours with just a click of a few buttons to match your site perfectly. The new Google Ads appearance is also attractive, adds quality to your sites. :)

5. Google Adsense now offer image ads. This is nice…adds colours to your site.

6. Biggest Ads company. Google Adsense being the biggest ads company guarantee that you will receive constants ads and advertisers on your site, and you will get pay by Google for sure.

7. One account, rule them all. You can use your existing Gmail account for Adsense, no need to sign up or remember password/email of another account. There are many other Google service as well, which you can use the same account and rule them all!

That’s all for the sharing from me for now…hope this article will be helpful/useful to you.

(DO NOT CLICK ON YOUR OWN ADS…don’t ever try or think about it!)

Microsoft to buy Yahoo for US$50 Billions?

Posted on May 8th, 2007 by KhoKing.

microsoft.gif yahoo.gif

I read an interesting news at lowyat.net:

http://www.lowyat.net/v2/latest/is-yahoo-worth-us-50-billion-2.html

Microsoft set into motion the next step of their plan in which they hope to eventually dominate the search and advertising by first making an offer to with Yahoo for a possible acquisition that could be worth $50 billion, according to a report from Forbes. This move is possibly a reaction to the increasing pressure Microsoft is facing to effectively compete in the online advertising space, even more so after the largely publicized bidding war recently between Microsoft and Google for DoubleClick, one of the internet advertising giants of today. Eventually, Google won and settled with DoubleClick for roughly $3.1 billion. What’s more, Yahoo had recently announced its acquisition of online advertising firm Right Media for $680 million. While US$680 Million is chump change compared to the US$3.1 Billion Google spent on DoubleClick, the move showed that Yahoo was willing to invest in becoming, and in fact already is a significant presence in online advertising. Of course, there’s also the issue of the market in the search industry. With Microsoft currently sitting in third place behind Yahoo and Google, the successful acquisition of Yahoo by Microsoft would give Google the first really significant threat in a long time.

Personal Comments:

As an internet user, I use Google on my daily search nowadays. I use Gmail as my main email. I use Analytics for my website statistics. I use Products (previously Froogle) for my online store. I use Sitemap for google to take a more details look of my sites. I use Google Earth for searching of maps and location of a place.

I was an Adsense user, until they banned me… :’(

Google has dominated my internet life. Microsoft and Yahoo are both facing the pressure, they are loosing out market share daily…and Google stock has gone higher and higher.

Is Yahoo worth US$50 billions? Hmm…initially I thought that would be a bit cheap, as Yahoo is a company as of similar status as Google. The potential is huge.

However, on a second thought…do you need US$50 billions to setup another Google? If you have the idea, or use the US$50 billions investment, you might be able to create another Google…or you might not. I don’t think I am smart enough for that… :P
