Shop Front Page Update @ ShaShinKi

Posted by KhoKing on Sunday Sep 12, 2010 Under Photography

Got some free time during this Raya holiday, so managed to do some clean up @ ShaShinKi store.

There are 3 major update that you will see on the shop front page, and several minor ones (for you to discover).

shashinki-change-12sept2010.gif

Clean Up 1 – Search Box @ Header

I have wanted this for a long time, finally able to do the codes and make the move. The old search box is at the upper right column, which has now been removed as I want to make the right column shorter with less items there.

Clean Up 2 – Top Menu

This should be a minor one, just doing some cleaning and tidying work. Not perfect yet until I figured out what to do next.

Clean Up 3 – Used Corner

ShaShinKi Used Corner is getting hotter and hotter, so I figured it would be good to put a dedicated BOX to promote our USED Corner so that it gives more exposure and better visibility to the products that YOU consigned with us.

There are some other cleaning work that has been done like tidying up pages, changing some colours of tables…etc. One that worth mention is the Shopping Guides at ShaShinKi, which has been updated with our latest look and design.

Thank you for dropping by and we hope these minor updates can make your shopping experience @ ShaShinKi a better one! :)

Maha Introduces PowerEx Imedion 2400!

imedion2400.jpg
Powerex IMEDION Batteries – “Ready When You Are” – Now Even Better!

Maha Energy, the maker of Powerex batteries and chargers, announces a major performance upgrade of its IMEDION battery: the AA size rechargeable battery gets a 14% capacity boost from 2100 to 2400 mAh, without compromising longevity or reliability.

A common problem that plagues rechargeable batteries is the need to recharge them about once every one to three months even if not used. Maha tackled this issue by developing advanced electrode materials to reduce the rate of power loss during storage. As a result, the IMEDION batteries retain up to 85% of its charge even after one year of storage (at a room temperature of 20 deg C). The IMEDION batteries are shipped fully-charged and ready-to-use.

The IMEDION batteries differ from the competition in that they boast a longer lifetime as well as increased power retention under warmer environments. The IMEDION batteries can be recharged for hundreds of times and perform extraordinarily well at elevated temperatures. In addition, the IMEDION batteries feature a low-impedance design and can deliver a high burst of current, suitable for camera flashes, remote control cars, and more.

The IMEDION batteries are fully compatible with all Powerex chargers.

Smart Phone, what IF LOST?

Posted by KhoKing on Wednesday Aug 25, 2010 Under Computer / IT

With the advancement of technology, it is so good that a phone can perform like a portable computer for you to bring everywhere! So many data and information you can store inside, some even like to use it as a camera to snap “private” photos. :P

It will be such a disaster if your smart phone is lost…cost of the phone is one thing, but the information inside the phone is the most important and of concern to all.

Being a phone, which can be bring around anywhere, the possibility of it getting lost is extremely high. Some might even get robbed! Yes, I have heard and read stories about that (don’t ever put your phone on a table when having lunch or dinner in open market).

So, what IF your Phone is lost? What security does one provide for the phone?

Apple has been demonstration remote lock and remote wipe features in their iPhone during the first generation launch. It is really a peace of mind thing. If a phone is lost, you can remotely lock it and / or wipe out all the data inside the phone. In some countries, you can even trace and locate where your phone is! (some countries do not allow it due to privacy issue)

Now…Android phone being so HOT and POPULAR now…does it has such feature? I wish it has but I was disappointed. I was really concerned about the information I have in my Samsung Galaxy S, and I did “lost” it once (later only found it inside my car). There are just way too many private data in the phone and security concern that should not get exposed to. I searched and google around and found two:

  • wave secure
  • mobile defense

When I tried to search for it in Android market via my Galaxy S, I just couldn’t find them. Not sure why, maybe is not available to my country (Malaysia).

Today I discovered and tested out ONE nice built in feature in Galaxy S! I have actually noticed that feature on Day 1 of buying my Galaxy S, but I didn’t understand the function of it and forgot about it. I did asked the salesman at Samsung Mobile Shop, and he doesn’t know as well. Today, after google for it, I finally understand it and IT IS ACTUALLY WHAT I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR! Yes, it is the REMOTE WIPE, REMOTE LOCK and MOBILE TRACKER!

Samsung Mobile Tracker

samsung_mobile_tracker.jpg

This is a unique feature given by Samsung to their phone users! I think only Samsung Galaxy S and Samsung Wave have this function at the moment. I won’t go into detail on how to set that up, as you can read that from Samsung website.

http://www.samsung.com/my/support/…

I set up my Galaxy S with the Mobile Tracker ON, and I tested it few minutes ago to LOCK my phone. Yes, my phone is locked after receiving an SMS. This is GOOD! :) Restart won’t bring OFF the lock screen. There is a PHONE password that you need to type to UNLOCK the phone. Yes, the lock screen is just like your phone keypad that allow you to type from 0 to 9. I am not sure how many time it allowed you to try out the password, as I read somewhere that a few wrong tries will result your phone being lock permanently.

Ok, I didn’t try the REMOTE WIPE feature, as I don’t want to reinstall and reconfigure my phone again (Just did it this afternoon after upgrading the firmware). I suppose REMOTE LOCK is better as REMOTE WIPE will clean all the data in your phone including the Mobile Tracker information (by default is OFF). That might render your phone to original factory condition and allowing whoever got your phone to be able to use it as a new phone. Not sure if I was right or wrong on this…

Locate my phone feature is not available in Malaysia. Too bad…

Samsung Dive

To remotely control your phone, you will need to login to Samsung Dive website.

http://www.samsungdive.com

It is a free service from Samsung for their mobile users. You can register account from your phone during the setup of Mobile Tracker on your phone.

Ok, now I have a peace of mind. Will set the Mobile Tracker on my wife’s phone later. :)

Samsung Galaxy S Firmware Upgrade (JG4)

Posted by KhoKing on Wednesday Aug 25, 2010 Under Computer / IT

Last night when playing around with Kies (Samsung software for the computer to communicate with Samsung phones), I noticed a notification of Firmware Update is available at the lower right corner of Kies.

New Firmware: PDA:JG4 / PHONE:JG4

I remember two weeks ago when I use Kies, there is no firmware upgrade available. So this must be released only recently.

samsung_kies_firmware_jg4.jpg

This is NOT Android 2.2 (Froyo) yet. Samsung has announced in their Korean website that there will be Android 2.2 for Galaxy S in September 2010. Definitely a MUST upgrade later (going through the pains again…). :P

Since my wife’s Galaxy S is new, I so thought why not upgrade it! (no valuable data inside it yet).

It took around 15 mins to complete the firmware upgrade, depending on your internet speed as it need to actually download the firmware (binary files) from Samsung website. I am on a 4MB/s Streamyx line.

Upgrade will actually DELETE and ERASE everything from your phone, back to factory default. So beware! You need to back up a few things first before attempting the firmware upgrade:

Contacts

  • Contacts (if you are using Google Contacts, then just sync it with Google)
  • Contacts in Phone (Copy and backup using Kies first to your PC)
  • Contacts in SIM (again, can copy and backup in Kies first to your PC)

SMS / MMS

I am not sure how to back this up. Kies seems not able to view my SMS stored in my Galaxy S. A bug in Kies? It should by right…else how am I able to backup my messages?I don’t know and I have tried several times by plugging and unplugging my Galaxy S to my PC, still Kies can’t load or find my messages.

Nevermind, not that those messages are of super important, so I just proceed to upgrade my phone.

Installed Software

I am not sure how to back this up. I don’t think there is any option to backup the installed software. So, manually note down what you have installed and wanted to install, as you will need to reinstall them later.

Upgrade? What Change? New Features?

I am not sure. Samsung did not mention it during the upgrade. One obvious change I saw after the upgrade is a new Apps Running icon, which you can click to see what apps are running in your phone and can choose to kill it as well. Good feature I would say.

Upon searching for the upgrade info in the internet, I saw some mentioning about the improvement in speed and reducing lag time in using the phone. Also improvement in sound quality. I am currently upgrading my own Galaxy S, will know later after upgraded and played around with it for a while.

It is actually GOOD to upgrade the firmware if you want to CLEAN and put your phone back to its original factory condition!

Samsung Galaxy S – Again?!

Posted by KhoKing on Tuesday Aug 24, 2010 Under Computer / IT

Just bought another unit today…for my wife this time. :)

galaxy-s-gt-i90001.jpg

Same price, RM2500. :P

I also learned that there are AP set from Singapore and other countries, selling at around RM1.9k (8GB) and 2.1k (16GB) via Lelong.com. In Malaysia, there is only 16GB version from Samsung Malaysia.

Paying RM2k for a phone, I think it is safer to get an official warranty set. :)

Online Shopping in Malaysia – Can trust or not?!

Posted by KhoKing on Sunday Aug 22, 2010 Under Family

The first thing that people will ask (especially in Malaysia) when talking about online shopping is…CAN TRUST OR NOT!

Noticed that I did not use ? but !, because those who asked this question are actually already set their mind to “CANNOT TRUST Lah!“. They are not seeking for answer, not asking a question but TELLING YOU what they think (Cannot Trust).

Online shopping in Malaysia is still relatively new. Thanks to AirAsia, most have to force to learn to shop online, at least to grab the so called “Free ticket“. AirAsia have managed to kick start online shopping experience in Malaysia since their first launch in early 2000, but that’s not enough. AirAsia is a big company, so people trusted them. How about other online shop?

ShaShinKi – the First & Largest Online Camera Shop! (in Malaysia lah…)

From time to time, I receive phone call and email from potential customers asking what if they paid but never receive the goods that they ordered. Can they trust ShaShinKi? Guest what…I told them NOT to trust me, but google for ShaShinKi and see what others are saying about ShaShinKi.

Of course, I also told them who am I (Dr. KOH Kho King). Hahaa…you might ask…who are you?! (“in shout mode”)

I am Dr. KOH Kho King

  1. Co-founder of Photo Malaysia (www.photomalaysia.com) – First & Largest Online Photography Community! (We have Canon, Schmidt, Futuromic, Shriro, etc. big companies in Malaysia advertising with us)
  2. Founder of Fotolah (www.fotolah.com) – Fastest growing Chinese Photography Forum in Malaysia!
  3. Founder of PentaxWorld.com (www.pentaxworld.com) – International Pentax Forum.
  4. Founder of BlogMalaysia.com (www.blogmalaysia.com) – Largest blog directory in Malaysia with over 10k members!

If the above still not enough, then take a look (detail study) at ShaShinKi website.

ShaShinKi.com – How much does it worth?

Malaysia’s First & Largest Online Camera Shop!

http://shashinki.com

We are the FIRST and LARGEST Online Camera Shop in Malaysia! Started in Dec 2005, we have been in the business for more than 4 years with lots of satisfied customers! We have nearly 5000 active products online, over 20k customers, very detail and smooth shopping system!

ShaShinKi has been in the business for more than 4 years, and we are the distributor of many big brands in the market (Domke, Maha PowerEx, Photo Clam, Phottix…etc.).

How much do you think that worth? A rotten egg (cheating) can easily spoil the whole pot of soup, and we will not let that happen to us and crashing the reputation and brand name that we have built.

Still worry?

Check out our Facebook account.

We communicate with our customers. We keep in touch with our customers. We make ourselves available for our customers. If we have cheated, people can find us easily and bad comment about us!

We have hundreds of satisfied customers that have left feedback at our website:

ShaShinKi advertises in TWO popular magazines in Malaysia MONTHLY!

  • Digital Camera Magazine
  • Hardware Magazine Malaysia

Go get a copy and you can find ShaShinKi’s advertisement and coverage in the magazines in the last 1 year and the many coming months!

Affiliates, we have lots of them!

We have lots of Affiliates that advertise for us too! If you happened to see ShaShinKi’s banner at some blogs, facebook, personal website, most probably those are our Affiliates. They earn commission by introducing customers to ShaShinKi, most of them are actual satisfied customers of ShaShinKi!

We Care!

Since the early day we have been implementing SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) in our website to protect the data sent over the internet from our customers to our secure server.

My Account Information

We are serious in the business, and we know how important and valuable our customers’ data are.

Not to mention that ShaShinKi is served from a dedicated dual Xeon processor server located in Malaysia too! (costs us $$$ every month to rent the server)

So What? you might say…

We spent lots of money in building up our brand, our reputation. Just like AirAsia.

In cyberworld, domain name is everything. It is the most worthy part of an online shop. An online shop can try to cheat their customers, but that can’t last long. Words will be spread easily (especially in online world, where everybody got their FB, blog, twitter now).

Try us once, I am sure you will love the convenience of the internet! :)

Did some cleaning work at home…sitting in front of the computer till 5am (Friday night ~ Sat morning)…continued some tidying stuff on Saturday and it is finally done.

No, not house cleaning, not physical shop cleaning, but my online shop – www.shashinki.com – cleaning. I remember a saying: the design of your shop is DONE on the day you decided to close it. There will always be improvement and modification work that you need to do from time to time. How very true from the day I start up ShaShinKi (Dec 2005), the work has never been completed and my job is never stopping.

You might not notice any difference at ShaShinKi.com, it is just some minor clean up work and tidying job, making browsing and shopping more pleasant. If you have noticed it, thank you! (You must be a frequent visitor or customer to ShaShinKi!) (Or…you are a dealer from another shop? No problem and you can contact us for cooperation. We do supply things to many other dealers in Malaysia. :) )

There are many more work to be done…and will be done. Do not hesitate to contact us at shop@shashinki.com if you found any bugs or room for improvement. Thanks ya! ;)

McDonald’s French Fries…HALF Full? Half Empty?

Posted by KhoKing on Saturday Aug 14, 2010 Under Rojak

Few weeks ago, I went to McDonalds to buy some “junk” food for myself and my family at night. I used the drive through method to make the purchase with my little kid in the car. It was like around 9pm.

Everything was smooth, drove through, purchased, reached home.

When opened up the package at home (together with GCB burger), to my dismay…the french fries in the bag is only HALF package! I paid for LARGE set and I got only HALF the fries! Not that I wanted to eat that much but I felt being cheated. There is no way that the waiter in McDonald can’t see the package is HALF full when they packed it for me!

kkk_2006.jpg

Got really frustrated with such service from McDonalds.

The next day I went back to the McD and asked to see his manager. Told him the story and my disappointment. The manager is such a young guy (looks like only 20+). He offered me a new french fries which I rejected to take. No, I am not there to beg for a new french fries junk food.

Where is the McD? The one besides the Shell station at Skudai UTM. Next time if you purchased things via drive through, make sure you check the content before leaving.

The next time you make your booking at AirAsia…do take note on the Convenience Fee that they are going to charge you if you use your CREDIT CARD to pay for the ticket.

Yes, by default they will want you to pay via Credit Card, so that they can charge you the Convenience Fee (RM5 per person if I remember correctly). If you chose to pay via local bank (Maybank, CIMB…etc.), then you will see that the Convenient Fee is automatically waived off. However, my last use of AirAsia is that they don’t allow me to pay via local bank, as the page is NOT working right for Other Banks. So I am FORCED to pay using my credit card and have to pay extra RM15 for 3 person booking. I pay one time, but they are charging me as per person’s booking.

airasia-convenience-fee.jpg

My total paid amount is RM265, while the convenience fee is RM15. This meant I paid 5.66% for using my credit card.

Is this legal? I thought Master and Visa forbidden merchants from charging customers when using the credit card?

AirAsia…they will try to squeeze whatever that is possible from you… :(

(Update: Just found out that AirAsia has this Convenience Fee page:

http://www.airasia.com/bd/en/confees.html

So called to subsidize the costs of the payment systems at AirAsia website…yeah…right…)

Upgraded to Streamyx 4MB/s package line recently. RM140 per month. Finally I can enjoy smooth YOUTUBE video…and smoother work at my computer. Used to be 384kb/s (RM60) package. Initially the 384kb package was fine, but in the last few months it has become too slow or painful to use. So finally have decided to upgrade.

Used 3 independent internet speed test website to confirm my current internet speed. All of them showed above 4MB/s download, though upload is very slow at only around 400kb/s. Anyhow, I am satisfied with the performance of the internet BB right now. Let’s hope the speed will NOT degrade after the 2 weeks “trial” period (the guy who came to set up my line told me that he is responsible / guarantee for 2 weeks services if anything goes wrong).

How to Become a Successful Affiliate? (success = earn more $$$)

Posted by KhoKing on Thursday Jul 29, 2010 Under Rojak

How to become a successful Affiliate?

How many how good or how many visitors your site has, if nobody clicks on your affiliate link, or if some clicks but did not complete the purchase at the merchant’s site, then you are getting no money.

How to become a successful Affiliate?

You will want your visitors to purchase the items from your Affiliate partner. You will want your visitors to complete the deal. You will want your visitors to convince that the item/s that he/she saw is worth buying. Instead of just putting up a banner of your Affiliate partner on your website, a more effective way would be to talk and discuss about it!

1. If you owned a blog, create a post to talk about your new Affiliate. Convince your visitors why you join the program and how reliable the merchant is. Share your shopping experience with your visitors.

2. Select and post up some interesting products from the merchant sites that you have purchase or might want to introduce. You can just use any image from the merchant site and embedded it with a link with your ref number on it to the merchant’s product page. Eg. of link with your Affiliate Ref. ID on it, and link to a specific product (products_id=1488):

http://shashinki.com/shop/product_info.php?ref=1&products_id=1488

3. DO NOT SPAM. Do not create bad name or impression by sending mass emails to your friends or strangers with the embedded Affiliate Reference ID on the link / banner. SPAMMING created very bad impression, which will be very hard to get clean up.

4. Put the Affiliate banner on a good location on your website. A banner is only as good as when people saw and click on it. You are not earning from impression, but from the actual sales that have been concluded.

5. Suggest any new idea to the merchant (We, ShaShinKi, listen!). Work together with the merchant to improve the conversion rate (from click to actual sales).

6. Get rid of the negative thinking of “I don’t want to promote too much…not worth for me to promote…etc.”. If you can’t, then you should remove yourself from joining the Affiliate Program. You will not get paid unless a deal is closed. You will need to promote as hard as you can in order to close a deal.

Let’s hope that the above tips can help promote and generate more sales to all Affiliates participating in ShaShinKi!

Miles different…Samsung Galaxy S (again…)

Posted by KhoKing on Wednesday Jul 28, 2010 Under Computer / IT

My old phone…Softbank X01HT. It was an exciting phone when I first got it. Saw my friend using it while I was in Japan, and I have to go get one too. (That was before iPhone came out. My friend later upgraded to iPhone…)

Using Windows mobile OS, installing apps is a pain…which I still not sure how to do it even by now. So my phone becomes a white elephant to me.

softbank-xt01.jpg

The keyboard is really good I must say. Typing sms is fast and furiuos.

softbank-xt01-02.jpg

Respond of the phone is slow, even though I didn’t install any apps. Really a put off…and have to use stylus to point, or fingernail. Yes, fingernail, not finger as it will not detect if you use finger touching the screen.

It is more than a cm thick…in today’s standard, that’s called a BRICK. Can be a good weapon when thrown at bad guys…knock the head sure fainted… :D

Now this is my new toy…time flies…technology advances so fast. Samsung Galaxy S.

samsung-galaxy-s1.jpg

Using Adroid system. Installing apps is just click and click. No complication.

Even though the phone comes with 1Ghz processor, I must say that it is still not ultra smooth in respond. Sometimes the screen does delay by a second or two, and the back button on the phone (lower right), can be like no respond. I don’t like the lower middle button design, it can be improved more. Dirt tends to go in between the edges of that button.

Ok, that’s all for now. More in future after I use the phone more. :)

Wireless Internet – Unlimited

Posted by KhoKing on Tuesday Jul 27, 2010 Under Computer / IT

After using the Samsung Galaxy S for a few days, I must say that the purchase is really a no regret and a satisfying one. Very sleek design phone, and very good software installed! Browsing and using the phone is responsive and smooth. When compared to my old HTC phone, it is like comparing a Window 98 with a Windows 7. No more stylus and the digital keyboard is very easy to type (in horizontal mode).

Now…before I got the phone I already knew that consistence internet connection to the phone is a must if I were to use it to its full potential. Digi internet connection is expensive for the on demand type (RM0.10 per 10kb,or RM10 per MB). Streaming a youtube will cost you a few RM already…that’s crazy I would say.

So, I check out the Digi Unlimited Internet plan, and my friend told me that there is a promotion or price slash by Digi recently…from RM88 to RM58 for the 3GB bandwidth unlimited internet 3G package! RM58 seems quite affordable, but I was in doubt of the “Unlimited” and the “3GB” cap. Called up Digi and able to get it clear out. There is a fair usage of 3GB per month for all, but after 3GB bandwidth is reached, internet connection will still have just that the speed is much slower than around 100kb/s (from originally 700kb/s). Fine with me so I subscribed. Can do the subscription via phone call or sms. I use the phone call type.

Now…the louzy part. Have to wait 24 hours before using. Though you can still use, but you will not be sure if you are still being charged to the old “On Demand” bill or the new “Unlimited fixed RM58″ bill. Called up Digi to check but their answer is crap. Not sure, to be safe, wait lah.

http://www.digi.com.my/internet/3g/pricing_58.html

http://www.digi.com.my/internet/3g/images/pricing/58_ov.png

Ok, I waited and waited, finally reached the 24 hours safe zone and start testing out youtube. Wow…really is FAST! I think it is 10 times faster than my current house Streamyx 384kbs “so called broadband”.

For Android phone, if you kept your APN ON all the time, it will connect to your internet provider all the time and data will be uploaded and downloaded all the time. This is quite “unsafe” in my opinion, and of course it consumed MUCH battery power. My Galaxy S can only last few hours with 3G connection browsing internet. There is no easy way to turn off APN by default in Android, but the beauty of Android is the open source and free support / widgets by many! Go download “Quick Settings” from the Android market and you are good to go. Can turn ON and OFF APN easily. There are many other features (GPS, WIFI…etc.) to be turned ON or OFF in “Quick Settings” too! Great add-on! Must for me.

Photo Clam – Professional Ballheads! Better than Markins!

Posted by KhoKing on Tuesday Jul 27, 2010 Under Photography

Photo Clam – A new player in professional ballhead makers, but definitely not a compromise brand! Remember the name – Photo Clam – cause it is going to be big in the photography world!

Yeah…many have commented the name – Photo Clam – …clam or clamp? I got myself confused when I first saw the name… :P

Anyhow, it does not matter. As long as the product quality is great, people will remember the name later. Yeah…Photo Clam…it is actually quite easy to remember.

Made in Korea

The world is now dominated by Korean products. We have Samsung everywhere (computer memory, home appliances, first LED TV, mobile phones), Hyundai cars at bargain price, LG electronics, Hyundai Heavy Industry…etc. Made in Korea has become a quality assurance trademark, similar (though not yet equal) as Made in Japan stamp. Personally I have tried a few Made in Korea products with relate to Photography Industry, and I must say that it is a satisfying experience and the products are really of better quality than those made in the C country (though some are good, but quality is most of the time in doubt). Matin & Dicapac are the two made in Korea products that I import, distribute and sell in Malaysia through ShaShinKi now. Photo Clam will be the 3rd. :)

Another famous ballhead maker that has the same origin as Photo Clam is Markins.  Markins started out as just another ballhead maker. However, it quickly gained the reputation after many professional photographers tried it out. A good product will definitely gained the reputation and has no fear of being tested our and challenged. This is how Markins gained the name. Markins is said to be the Arca Swiss copier, but better. There are many reports and reviews from photographer worldwide complaining on the LOCK DOWN of Arca Swiss ballhead. Yes, LOCK DOWN, where the ball is stuck and you can’t unlock it. This gives the room and chance for Markins to evolve and better and take over Arca Swiss market. Personally, after using Markins during a photo trip, I found one weakness in it, the pan base. The pan base of Markins ballhead can’t be locked firmly even by great force, which is quite a let down and inferior as compare to the main ballhead lock. So, this gives a chance for other maker to better out Markins ballhead and take over the market share…and the bettered brand = Photo Clam.

Photo Clam

Who is Photo Clam?

From what I heard and read, Photo Clam is founded by a photographer who is also the boss of a high precision engineering manufacturing factory, not satisfied with the quality of the ballheads in the market, hence decided to make his own (with his ready engineering factory). So he knows what he wants, he knows what is lacking in the ballheads in the market, and he has the ability to make the “best” ballhead for photographers.

Where to buy?

My New Toy – Samsung Galaxy S

Posted by KhoKing on Saturday Jul 24, 2010 Under Computer / IT

Got my new toy today.

samsung-galaxy-s.jpg

Called Samsung Mobile shop in Johor, they said no stock and most probably new stock will only arrive today last afternoon. I told them to call me when it arrived.

The Samsung blue…

kkk_2026.JPG

Got a call at around 3pm, then straight away I drove to Jusco Bukit Indah and got some cash from the ATM machine there and walk to the shop at third floor. It is at the right wing if you enter from the main door of Jusco Bukit Indah.

This is NOT the first time I see a Galaxy S. The first time I saw it was like 2 weeks back, at PIKON PC Fair in JB. I was not impressed with it, find the interface to be quite dull and boring. I am undecided between iPhone 4 (which don’t know when will be available…), HTC Phone (Legend or Desire) and Samsung Galaxy S.

I decided to drop iPhone from my list, as I don’t like to stick to iPhone Tune or iPhone software. Yes, I have a macbook myself, which I hate when I first received it, but later can accept but still not loving it. (the HDD in the macbook died on me, and I lost quite a lot of important data)

HTC Legend…kinda out dated a bit…so out.

HTC Desire…I kinda like the rubberised body. My last phone was a HTC, and I kinda hate it for its slow in respond. Yes, a touch screen HTC, early model I guess and was quite expensive back then.

Yesterday I spent quite some time checking and reading reviews online on HTC Desire versus Samsung Galaxy S. From what I read (never believe everything you read)…HTC seems to be better on the software while Samsung is better on the hardware. HTC is using AMOLED and Samsung is using Super AMOLED. Samsung screen is 4″ while HTC is 3.7″ (Since I hope to use the phone often as a WIFI device, so the bigger screen size does sounds attractive to me). From some reviews online, Galaxy S seems to be faster on WIFI than Desire too.

kkk_2028.JPG

HTC Desire is RM2199 while Samsung is RM2599. RM400 difference.

Finally, set. I am hoping that Samsung can improve on the software part later, and using Android system…that is quite possible (though many said Samsung support sucks…).

kkk_2027.JPG

I paid RM2500 nett today for the Galaxy S. No free gift except a small cheap cloth pouch (worth less than RM10). Ok lah…at least I can still use it to protect my Galaxy S when putting it in my pocket. Avoid coins and keys scratch my “expensive” phone. RM2500 is quite a lot, but since I will be using it daily…so I think (or hope) the investment is worth while.

Got home…played with it a little, connected to my house WIFI. Samsung Aps sucks. Only one game there (car racing…quite nicely designed). In total only 8 Apps at the moment. Went to Android Aps, wow…a lot! Many free one too! Powered by Android (or Google) seems like a brand now…

kkk_2029.JPG

Try downloading them…”Download Unsuccessful”. All the time…got fedup…google for answers…seems like a common problem that many have experienced with Android phone (not just Galaxy S). Found many suggestions…finally this one solved it.

SETTINGS > APPLICATIONS > MANAGE APPLICATIONS

Once in manage applications, click the menu button and select filter and filter by all.

Now delete the data AND cache for the following applications (if you only get the option to delete one or the other, then do what is available):

Download Manager
Google Apps
Google Talk Service
Google Talk Storage
Internet
Market
Talk

Apps can be downloaded and installed successfully! :)

There is NO accessories for Samsung Galaxy S in that Samsung shop. The supplied accessories are earphone, USB cable and USB 3-pins charger. Got the free pouch.

kkk_2030.JPG

Youtube is brilliant on the phone. Very clear movie and very good sound. I haven’t used it for talking yet…

Ok…that’s all for the rambling on my new toy…it is more than a phone (I hope) and hopefully can work well for what it is, a phone.

Another new toy that I gotten today…

kkk_0990-1000.JPG

Amazing bokeh at such focal length and short shooting distance…the ultimate weapon to shoot macro…

the Nikon AFD 200mm F/4 Micro Lens – the KING of micro photography!

kkk_1207.JPG

I have done a series of photos varying the aperture from f4 till f32. I shall share later…

Ok, before I go to bed, this is the shot at f32. Bokeh is still very pleasant ad the subject is in sharp focus!

That’s all for today…ja-ne!

Nikon AF 50mm F/1.8 – Sharpest Nikon?!

Posted by KhoKing on Tuesday Jul 13, 2010 Under Photography

If not the sharpest, definitely one of the sharpest!

Original shot

kkk_1146-500.JPG

100% cropped (No sharpening, just cropped.).

kkk_1146-c.JPG

Bought this lens 2nd hand today, worth every single cent! It has been a long time that I have not enjoy such a high resolutions! Shot on a tripod, every single shot is a pleasant shot!

Lighting is very tricky, as my room is having warm downlight. Very yellowish.

Shot using flash, but if I used Flash White Balance setting, the colour will still be very yellowish. So I choose White Balance Tungsten light instead.

Brand new lens is still worth every single cent, if you used it of course (many bought and keep the lens in the darkness, as they are so used to the convenient of zoom…). :P
