Thank you, Lord!

Posted by KhoKing on Thursday Oct 4, 2007 Under Church, Computer / IT, Family, Photography, Rojak

Today marks the exact two years I am in Japan. I arrived in Japan on 4th Oct 2005, together with my wife.

Today, God has blessed me with Megumi and my wife is still here by my side to take care of me and our whole family.

God’s grace has been overflowed…we have nothing less, more than enough than what we have ever imagine. God has blessed us in my study, my family, my business, my friends, my brothers and sisters.

Life in Japan is like a dream…soon I will be leaving…soon I might come back again…God’s grace and guidance is always the best. I just want to say…

Thank you, Lord!

Tenaga National Berhad: use too little…fined!

Posted by KhoKing on Wednesday Oct 3, 2007 Under Rojak

This is really crazy…can you imagine?!!! If you did not use to a certain amount of electricity, you will be fined. Yeah…paying money as penalty because you did not meet TNB minimum usage requirement…

This is MONOPOLY! How can the government allow that?!!!

What did Nikon use to shoot their D300 product shots?

Posted by KhoKing on Wednesday Sep 26, 2007 Under Rojak

Is it a Nikon DSLR? Is it their secret Nikon DSLR? Is it D2Xs? Is it a Canon 1Ds MK II?

Nah…it is a medium format with Phase One P-45 back! (Ok, we don’t know what camera they are using with the P-45 digital back). Nikon forgot to delete the exif info in their D300 product shot. Click on the file/photo below and check out the exif. Guess what software they are still using nowadays to edit the photo?! :D

Renewing Student Visa

Posted by KhoKing on Tuesday Sep 25, 2007 Under Rojak

What do you need when renewing your student visa?

Before I came to Japan, I was given 2 years visa pass. Now…in Oct 4th, my visa will be due. I need to renew my visa two weeks before the due date.

Here’s what the required documents:

  1. Scholarship/letter of scholarship from Hiroshima University
  2. Letter of attendance (meaning that you do attend the classes or go to the university)
  3. Letter of student’s results (showing what grade you got for your classes in the university)
  4. Passport
  5. Alien card (yeah…Japanese calls foreigner alien…)

1~3 just go to the administration office of your faculty and they will assist/prepare you with that. For 2 &3, you can actually print it out from the “machine” using your student card. Free of charge.

You will need to fill in some lengthy form at the foreign registration center in Hiroshima-shi. Just go to the country and ask for the form. Tell them you want to renew your visa and they will give you the form.

Update:

I just got my new renewed visa today. One year extension. Fee? Yeah…need to pay JPY4000 per person. Any other document needed? No, but I was actually supposed to wait for the foreign office to post me a card telling me my visa is ready before I went, thank God I manage to get the visa today too and the people there are very nice and efficient.

One thing I notice. They have official lunch time from 12pm-1pm, but the staffs there never use the time till full. They will take their lunch quickly, and then come back to work. This is Japanese culture, their working style, which is the very main reason they can be such a develop and successful country/nation.

The Star: “UTM a thiefs heaven”

Posted by KhoKing on Monday Sep 10, 2007 Under Rojak

It is a shame with this kind of title that makes UTM popular… :(

http://www.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2007/9/10/nation/18834926&sec=nation

Below are the quote from The Star newspaper:

PETALING JAYA: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) lost about RM900,000 worth of assets such as computers and LCD screens in six years because just about anybody could borrow the items and not return them.

The Auditor-General’s report said that there was lax security and monitoring at the university, allowing people to steal easily.

Examples of this included no closed-circuit television cameras installed in strategic areas, no grilles on windows and doors, and too many people sharing the same key to a lab or office, the report said.

It was also reported that almost all offices and faculties did not maintain records on equipment usage.

The AG audited both campuses in Skudai, Johor, and Kuala Lumpur, and found that of the RM854,346 total loss of assets, RM605,761 (70.9%) worth were stolen from 2004 to August 2006.

It also said that the cases increased from three in 2001 to 22 in 2006. Read More

What is GREY Product?

Posted by KhoKing on Friday Sep 7, 2007 Under Computer / IT, Photography, Rojak

We often hear the term “grey product” when shopping online, especially in USA shops.

What is GREY PRODUCT? Why USA shops use the word GREY for their parallel import products? The reason is simple: because the origin of the product is unknown, hence making it a grey (not white not black) product with unknown origin. In USA, shops will not tell you where their grey products came from. It can be China, Japan, Hong Kong…etc., unknown.

ShaShinKi.com parallel import products are official from Japan, I stated it clearly. You know the origin, you will have the Japan warranty card (sometimes no), Japanese menu…etc. That is why it is not called as grey product. If you know the origin of a product, you can’t call it grey set anymore.

When you go shopping oversea and bought a DSLR from say Singapore shop, do you call it a grey product? NO, because it is an official product in Singapore and you have all the document and you know the origin of the product.

People nowadays like to use GREY PRODUCT name too simply without knowing what they are talking about…hope this post will clear the cloud and give GREY a clearer definition. :)

Original Lyrics of Amazing Grace

Posted by KhoKing on Thursday May 31, 2007 Under Rojak

Amazing Grace

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That savd a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relievd;
How precious did that grace appear,
The hour I first believd!

Thro many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promisd good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease;
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who calld me here below,
Will be forever mine.

I first heard about this movie when I made my visit to UK in March. My sister told me about the movie, and I saw the poster of the movie on a bus in Glasgow.

The song is beautiful…and I am waiting for the DVD version to be released so that I can purchase it and watch together with my wife and friends.

Earth Quake

Posted by KhoKing on Thursday Apr 26, 2007 Under Family, Rojak

Earth quake today at the place where I stay, Higashi-Hiroshima. I live at 9th floor, a 10th floor building, so I can feel the earth quake quite clearly. My wife felt it a few seconds before me, and the shaking last for around 10 seconds (I think). After checking Yahoo weather, my place is experiencing 3rd degree of earth quake. Not as strong as I felt before, as last time there were things falling in my kitchen.

Below is some summary from Yahoo, where you can get full report at:

DELL Re-offer Windows XP!

Posted by KhoKing on Monday Apr 23, 2007 Under Rojak

DELL

Due to the popular demand worldwide, Dell has announced the re-introduction of Windows XP in their computer system. Effective immediately, customers can now order new Dell computer from Dell website with the option of choosing Windows XP as the operating system. According to Dell, customers can choose to have either Window XP Home or Windows XP Pro pre-installed on four Inspiron notebook systems (the 1405, 1501, 1505, and 1705 models) and Dell’s Dimension E520 and E521 desktop computers.

This might be due to the recently lots of compatibility issue of Windows Vista with some hardwares and softwares. However, Dell will not offer Windows XP forever, as Microsoft has announced at their website the end of life date of Windows XP as of 31st January 2008.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle/default.mspx

Support for Windows XP will be available till 31st January 2009, a year after Windows XP stop selling from retails.

Nokia has always cater and not forgetting the HIGH END market of handphone users. I am sure there are many millions and billionaires out there that would want to have a handphone that is NOT affordable by the general public.

Handphone has been an everyday life NECESSARY for most. Even Apple has realized this and put their hands into the BIG CAKE market. Steve Jobs said he just need 1% of the mobile phone market, which is equivalent to 10 millions units.

Back to the Nokia Gold news… :)

Hakuba Ultra Strong Anti-Fungus Packs for Camera Lens KMC-04

Posted by KhoKing on Thursday Apr 19, 2007 Under Photography, Rojak

Somebody emailed me and asked about the Hakuba KMC-04, so I thought I would share my opinion here as well as reference for others.

Hakuba Ultra Strong Anti-Fungus Packs for Camera Lens

The Hakuba KMC-04 is a moisture absorber, keeping the moisture in your camera bag low, hence preventing or reducing the risk of fungus growing in your camera bag.

However, do note that it is NOT advisable to keep your camera and lenses in your camera bag while not using them for an extended period. Reason is because most camera bags are made from fabric and sponge, which are a moisture absorber in nature and keep the bag damp and wet most of the time. Although the Hakuba can reduce the humidity inside the camera bag, but it is not a 100% fool proof product to prevent fungus, as it still mainly depends on the environment of where you store your bag.

I would still recommend you getting a drybox to store your D70s and lenses at home:

http://shashinki.com/shop/dry-cabinet-dry-box-c-36.html

The Hakuba is good and useful when you are traveling with your camera bag.
