CHRIS TOMLIN — HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD

Posted by KhoKing on Sunday Mar 13, 2011 Under Church

A beautiful song! How great is our God!

Lyrics

The splendor of the King, clothed in majesty
Let all the earth rejoice
All the earth rejoice

He wraps himself in Light, and darkness tries to hide
And trembles at His voice
Trembles at His voice

How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God

Age to age He stands
And time is in His hands
Beginning and the end
Beginning and the end

The Godhead Three in One
Father Spirit Son
The Lion and the Lamb
The Lion and the Lamb

How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God

Name above all names
Worthy of all praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God

Name above all names
Worthy of all praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God

How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God

What is Wisdom?

Posted by KhoKing on Sunday Nov 7, 2010 Under Church, Family

Today’s sermon by Pastor @ my church…”What is wisdom?”

That’s a good title, set me thinking. What is wisdom?

Many people confused Proverbs 1:7 with wisdom. If you study carefully, you will notice that in Proverbs 1:7, the word knowledge is being used, not wisdom.

7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

The actual phrase that referred to wisdom is in Proverbs 9:10.

10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

I like the word “Fear” in NIV version. In Chinese Bible, the word “敬畏” is being used. The Chinese word is a combination of “respect” + “fear”, where my personal interpretation is more referring to respect than fear, which in my personal opinion is having a totally different emotional feel than the English word “Fear”. Yes, fear we should to the Lord. When we fear, then only we will do things carefully, carry out task carefully. Fear of not achieving God’s standard, always do our best for the Lord.

Know your Lord, know Him, and fear be you to Him. He is almighty, all knowledge. He created us, He is justice, He is love. Once you know Him, fear be you to Him, and you shall have wisdom.

What is Wisdom?

It set me thinking…what is wisdom? From human point of view, wisdom can be the application of knowledge, use the knowledge that you have, in solving problems that you faced.

Is that the wisdom that what God wants us to have? Personally I would interpret wisdom as:

“Able to judge or make decision based on God’s standard.”

What’s the different between the first and the second? Application of knowledge, someone can apply his knowledge in doing bad things. We do not call that someone a wise person or having wisdom. That someone has knowledge, but does not apply his knowledge rightfully, so he has no wisdom. Now there is an important keyword in my sentence above – Bad Things. What is bad things? Different time will have different interpretation of what is right and what is wrong. Something that you did today could be good in today’s standard, but maybe bad in say 10 years time. Let me give you an example:

  • Sex before marriage

This is NOT allowable in the old time, but nowadays, we can see this everywhere, especially in big cities or more modern countries. The standard of human is changeable, the moral of human is not permanent. In order to define wisdom, we need to stick to something that does not change, which in my opinion is God’s standard.

That is why in my definition of wisdom, I involved God’s standard. If we do not judge or do things as according to God’s standard, then we have no wisdom. Only if we can fear the Lord and judge things (make decision, carry out tasks) carefully, then wisdom of God will be upon us.

Just sharing, may God give me wisdom in writing.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Posted by KhoKing on Monday May 10, 2010 Under Church, Family

Happy Mother’s Day to my wife from Megumi…

kkk_7854.JPG

(The carnation was made by Megumi in her childcare school last Friday.)

Today’s sermon in church talked about the love of mother and the love of God. Mother’s love is unconditioned. Mother never think of the repay from her children when she delivered her love. She sacrifies her time, money, body…etc. for her children, just hoping them to grow well and grow good. Of course mother might sometime hope for her children to repay her goodwill, but that’s not the reason for her to deliver her love.

God’s love is unconditioned as well. However, there is a qualitative difference between mother’s love and God’s love. A mother loves her children, because they are her children. The love from a mother to her own child and other’s child is definitely different. It will be hard for a mother to love other’s child as much as her own child. This is not in God’s case. God loves us, while we are still a sinner, God already loves us. God’s love us so much that He sacrified Himself to save us. Die for your friend, for family, there might be. Die for your enemy, that’s God’s love.

Thank God for given us a mother. Thank God for the love of our mother. Thank God we can be a mother. Thank God for the love, as God is love.

Easter meaning…John 20:1~30

Bible (New International Version) – John 20:1~30

The Empty Tomb

1Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”

3So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. 4Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. 6Then Simon Peter, who was behind him, arrived and went into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7as well as the burial cloth that had been around Jesus’ head. The cloth was folded up by itself, separate from the linen. 8Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. 9(They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.)
Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

10Then the disciples went back to their homes, 11but Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.

13They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”

“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” 14At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.

15″Woman,” he said, “why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”
Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”

16Jesus said to her, “Mary.”
She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher).

17Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ”

18Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her.

Jesus Appears to His Disciples

19On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 20After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

21Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

Jesus Appears to Thomas

24Now Thomas (called Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”
But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it.”

26A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 27Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

28Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

29Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

30Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Passover at ShaShinKi

Posted by KhoKing on Sunday Mar 29, 2009 Under Church, Photography

Passover is one of the most important incident for all who believes in God. Christians believe the old testament in the Bible as well, how God saves His people from Egypt.

Passover 2009 is from 8th ~ 16th April 2009. To remember this season, I have designed an unique banner for ShaShinKi logo. It has been a long time that I did not do this festival / season logo design. Thank God, I got the simple idea to just paint the blood over the door of ShaShinKi, in remembrance of the Bible teaching. Personally I quite like this design, simple but delivering the message clearly.

shashinki-logo-700.gif

In Bible:

PASSOVER
Exodus 12:5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: Exodus 12:6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth [14th] day of the same month [Nisan 14]: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening [of Nisan 14]. Exodus 12:7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. Exodus  12:12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night [Nisan 14], and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. Exodus 12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. Exodus 12:14 And this day [Nisan 14] shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

Thank God for the salvation, thank God for his almighty.

A GROCERY LIST…

Posted by KhoKing on Tuesday Apr 1, 2008 Under Church

A very good story I received today from my sister, not sure who is the original author, do feel free to forward or send it to your friends. :)

A GROCERY LIST…

Louise Redden, a poorly dressed lady with a look of defeat on her face, walked into a grocery store. She approached the owner of the store in a most humble manner and asked if he would let her charge a few groceries. She softly explained that her husband was very ill and unable to work, they had seven children and they needed food.

John Longhouse, the grocer, scoffed at her and requested that she leave his store at once.

Visualizing the family needs, she said: ‘Please, sir! I will bring you the money just as soon as I can.’

John told her he could not give her credit, since she did not have a charge account at his store.

Standing beside the counter was a customer who overheard the conversation between the two. The customer walked forward and told the grocer that he would stand good for whatever she needed for her family. The grocer said in a very reluctant voice, ‘Do you have a grocery list?’

Louise replied, ‘Yes sir.’ ‘O.K’ he said, ‘put your grocery list on the scales and whatever your grocery list weighs, I will give you that amount in groceries.’

Louise, hesitated a moment with a bowed head, then she reached into her purse and took out a piece of paper and scribbled something on it. She then laid the piece of paper on the scale carefully with her head still bowed.

The eyes of the grocer and the customer showed amazement when the scales went down and stayed down.

The grocer, staring at the scales, turned slowly to the customer and said begrudgingly, ‘I can’t believe it.’

The customer smiled and the grocer started putting the groceries on the other side of the scales. The scale did not balance so he continued to put more and more groceries on them until the scales would hold no more.

The grocer stood there in utter disgust. Finally, he grabbed the piece of paper from the scales and looked at it with greater amazement.

It was not a grocery list, it was a prayer, which said:

Dear Lord, you know my needs and I am leaving this in your hands.

The grocer gave her the groceries that he had gathered and stood in stunned silence.

Louise thanked him and left the store.

The other customer handed a fifty-dollar bill to the grocer and said;

‘It was worth every penny of it. Only God Knows how much a prayer weighs.’

THE POWER OF PRAYER: When you receive this, say a prayer. That’s all you have to do.Just stop right now, and say a prayer of thanks for your own good fortune. Then please send this to all your friends and relatives.I believe if you will send this testimony out with prayer in faith, you will receive what you need God to do in your and your families’ life .So dear heart, trust God to heal the sick, provide food for the hungry, clothes and shelter for those that don’t have as we do.

Amen & Amen

Easter 2008 – Sunday Service

Posted by KhoKing on Sunday Mar 23, 2008 Under Church

We went to Easter Sunday service today (Megumi Kyokai, Saijyo, Hiroshima, Japan) on 23rd March 2008.

kkk_0648.JPG

(My church in Japan – I took this photo a on 16th February 2008)

Kato sensei preached about Jesus’s tomb being guarded after he was died. Chief Priests and the Pharisees uses many methods to make sure that nobody was able to steal away the body…as they remember that wen Jesus was alive, the preached about resurrected from death after three days. They do not want to Jesus body to be stolen away by his disciples and created more deception. They still do not believe in man resurrected from death.

Bible verse that we study in church today was:

Matthew 27:62-66

62The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. 63“Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ 64So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.”

65“Take a guard,” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.” 66So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard.

The guards have used many method to ensure that Jesus body will not be stolen away.

  1. They use a big ROCK to seal the tomb
  2. They sealed the stone
  3. They posted guards to guard the tomb

With such tight security, nobody will be able to steal way Jesus body, yet when Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb, Jesus is not there anymore and there were as violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.

Matthew 28

1After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

2There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

5The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

Jesus is alive! His resurrection is undeniable.

Our heart is like a grave…sealed with many earthy things…eg. money, luxury, greediness, hatred, internet, lust…etc. Nobody can open up our heart, except Jesus Christ.

We did not seek God, but God comes to us and lead us to Him.

We deserve no mercy, but God comes to us and give mercy on us.

We deserve to die, but God comes to us, die for us and give us eternal life.

How do I know Jesus is alive? I know because He lives within myself today!

Emmanuel…Hallelujah, amen!

I am who I am…

Posted by KhoKing on Friday Mar 21, 2008 Under Church

I saw many people using this phrase nowadays…

“I am who I am”

Do you know where is the origin of this phrase?

Who is the first or only qualified person for this phrase?

English lesson… :P

“I am who I am”

… are you still who are you like yesterday? Or seconds ago? Or last year?

In English, we see there are past tense, present tense and future tense. Why? Because we human are bounded by time. We are no longer the same we seconds ago. We changed, all the time.

So…can you guess who is the only one that qualified for the above phrase?

Yes, God. The almighty God and created heaven and earth, and created sky and land, that created time and not bounded by time.

Yes, this phrase first appear in the Bible, in Exodus 3:14, when Moses asked God’s name.

Original phrase = “I am that I am

King James Version
Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

——-

Only God has the right to use that phrase, so next time if you want to write who you are again…think about the powerful or true meaning of the phrase. :)

Christmas, not xmas!

Posted by KhoKing on Wednesday Dec 26, 2007 Under Church

Many people seems to like using X’mas or xmas or Xmas in replacing Christmas nowadays. This is really sad and really WRONG!

How can one replace Christ with x / X? Sometimes we as Christians don’t even realize this ourselves, due to the laziness in typing especially using handphone to send sms or text message. However, some words are just not replaceable.

In future, if you greet someone…please make sure you type Christmas not any other simplier word. Without Christ, Christmas is meaningless.

Christmas eve…2007…

Posted by KhoKing on Monday Dec 24, 2007 Under Church

In a few minutes time…it will be Christmas day!

Christmas is not a celebration for santa clause, not a celebration of receiving presents, not a celebration of holiday…Christmas is a remembrance of the birthday of Jesus Christ, son of God who came to earth 2000 years ago to complete the plan of God.

Christ was born, as promised by God to the Israel people. Not just Israel people, but also a savior was born for all the people who believe in God.

Christ was born, not in the glorious place, no in palace, not in the softest bed.

Christ was born, in a manger. Closest to man, to earth, to the poorest, to those who need him most.

Christ was born, not for the saints, not for the good man, not for the rich, not for the rulers, but for those who admit sinners.

Christ was born, from heaven to earth, from the highest to the lowest, from the richest to the poorest.

Christ was born, a savior was born, a king was born, God came in fresh on earth.

Christ was born, for you, for me, for us.

Does Christmas means anything other than holiday to you? You can make Christmas a meaningful day…if you have Christ in you. Having Christ be your Savior, your Lord, your King, your God. Make every Christmas a celebration of Christ Jesus, his birthday for you, not for me or others, but you.

Merry Christmas,

Christ was born!

Children Blessing Service – Megumi Church (Japan)

Posted by KhoKing on Monday Nov 12, 2007 Under Church, Family

Today (Sunday – 11 November 2007) we have a Children Blessing Service in our church. All children of Primary 6 and below are going on stage to get blessed/prayer by the pastor. This is done after the message preaching by our Pastor with Bible verses below:

Mark 10:13-16 (King James Version)

10:13 And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.
10:14 But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
10:15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
10:16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.

Here’s some photos of Megumi and Mum (Lydia) and Pastor Kato to share:

今天,我和诺诺”一起”读 箴言6章1~19节 . 当中有诺诺她爸爸喜爱的经文. 特别是看到懒惰人时,她爸爸就会提起这段经文:

懒 惰 人 哪 , 你 去 察 看 蚂 蚁 的 动 作 , 就 可 得 智 慧 。(6:6)

Go to the ant, you hater of work; give thought to her ways and be wise:

懒 惰 人 哪 , 你 要 睡 到 几 时呢 ? 你 何 时 睡 醒 呢 ?再 睡 片 时, 打 盹片 时 , 抱 着 手 躺 卧 片 时 ,你 的 贫 穷 就 必 如 强 盗 速来 , 你 的 缺 乏 仿 佛 拿 兵 器 的 人来 到。(10~11).

How long will you be sleeping, O hater of work? when will you get up from your sleep?

A little sleep, a little rest, a little folding of the hands in sleep:

Then loss will come on you like an outlaw, and your need like an armed man

Autumn is always the harvest season in Japan. Japanese rice is what Japanese are very proud of. You can see paddy field always everywhere. No need big space, even a small field of around 3 card parking area you can see people growing paddy on it. Japanese has sufficient rice to provide within the country for consumption, the only food that do not need import from oversea, and can even export!

Here are some photos of the paddy field taken next to my church. Already been harvested a week later after I took the photos.

Pastor Hayashi

Posted by KhoKing on Wednesday Apr 4, 2007 Under Church

This might be the last time I am seeing my beloved pastor – Hayashi sensei – in Japan. Today went to church at 8am to help moving house. Though I do not know him well, but his messages in church and his family and Megumi church have been a big blessing to me and my wife in Japan.

Pastor Hayashi has been serving in Megumi church for more than 10 years. Many people cried during his last service on 25th March 2007, I was in Scotland during that time but my wife called me about the church service. I am glad that I can meet him again today.

To Hayashi sensei, wherever you go, may God bless you and your family and be with you all always!
