Car Service – 1 Year Interval

Posted by KhoKing on Sunday Apr 21, 2013 Under Car

Sent my Car in for servicing at Peugeot yesterday. Took around 1 hour for it to be done, exact time should be 1.4hr (that’s what they charged me for labour fee @ RM90 per hour). Uses Total lubricant, 5 Litre at RM330.

Changed oil filter, RM50+.

Total cost around RM510 for the service.

Supposed to be 20,000km service, but my ride is just 13,000km. Still, it has reached the 6 months interval period, so have to send it in so that the 5 Years Warranty will not void.

Service quality? Found some black oil stains on my car bonnet. Luckily my seat and steering are black as well, else I believe there might be some stains from the dirty hands…at least I am not seeing now on my dark colour seats and steering. They used to wrap the seat with plastic and steering with plastic as well (my previous service). Didn’t see it this time, I guess they are too busy.

RainX for your Car Windshield

Posted by KhoKing on Tuesday Mar 12, 2013 Under Car

Saw this RainX at Jusco Taman Universiti, remember hearing this brand in some oversea car forum, so decided to give it a try. RM24.90 per bottle.

20130310_132645

The inside bottle is like the below. Make sure you don’t tilt it after opening, as fluid will flow out from the yellow tip.

rainx

Applying is quite easy.

1st: Clean your windshield. Make sure it is dry after cleaning.

2nd: Pour RainX onto a clean dry cloth. Then wipe in circular motion over the entire windshield. Personally I applied some force when circling it.

3rd: Wait for the RainX to dry, around 10-15 mins. You will see HAZE like dirt on the glass.

4th: Clean the haze with a dry cloth. Done.

Immediately you can try test the EFFECT by pouring some water onto the glass. Yes, water won’t stay there and all flow down smoothly. Good. :)

Washing a Waxed Car, EASY!

Posted by KhoKing on Friday Mar 8, 2013 Under Car

Have by Peugeot 407 waxed last Sunday. Rained yesterday and today, so the car is back to…DIRTY!

Can’t tahan the dirt…so pull out a wet cloth and start wiping out the dirt. Yeah I know I should rinse, wash, rinse…but I just don’t have that much time for a total car wash. Wipe is enough for me.

Surprisingly, thanks to the wax, the dirt is super easy to clean! The surface is very smooth, and I cleaned the car in around 15 minutes. The wax looks great on the paint, hopefully it will last long for at least a month. 3 months would be good, and 6 months is too good.

Servicing @ Peugeot

Posted by KhoKing on Thursday Mar 7, 2013 Under Car

They have a new coffee serving machine, free of course. The paper cup has Peugeot printing on it, good brand promoting. :)

20130306_145532

Not just coffee, it can serve Teh Tarik too…hahaa…interesting.

It took around 2 hours for car servicing, so I went to their showroom to checkout their cars. The 508SW looks interesting.

20130306_151114

The boot is powered by electric. So close or open can be done by just pressing a button. Neat.

Internal design is good too. Panoramic roof, modern buttons, large LCD…etc.

20130306_150755

20130306_150934

20130306_150939

I think it is a nice car, but personally I don’t like Wagon design. Maybe just the normal 508 will do, but no…not another Peugeot (I already have TWO). :p

I did checked out some other models in the showroom too, more later… :)

Peugeot 308 Griffe (is actually 308 Turbo with some cosmetic change)

20130306_151439

20130306_151429

Quite a nice car in my opinion., the 308 Turbo. However, this GRIFFE is not what I think is nice. The carbon fibre skirting surrounding the car looks like poor quality. The one below the front door is already broken. Yeah…for a new showroom car.

Griffe has some changes in the interior as well. Now add RED stitching to the seat, steering, gear knob, handbraake…etc. For me, if leather upgrade then better.

20130306_151311

20130306_151325

Then I go check out the 508 Sedan version. I think 508 is nice only for the WHITE colour. Black one looks dull to me. White looks elegant and clean, but of course have to keep it clean all the time lah…which is difficult…

20130306_155246

20130306_151714

Haha…enough for WINDOW shopping while waiting for my 407 to be ready.

On the servicing part, paid RM413 for the servicing (RM333 on Total oil and RM90 labour fee, less RM10 for Peugeot Privilege member). Around 1.5 hour in total spent.

Finally…have my car Waxed

Posted by KhoKing on Sunday Mar 3, 2013 Under Car

Yes, I have wanted to do it for a long time. The paint condition of my car is poor. Very rough surface due to in dusty environment.
(Overspray refers to the application of any form of paint, varnish, stain or other non-water soluble airborne particulate material onto an unintended location.)

Today, I have several hours free. So decided to do the waxing job at a car wash shop that I have visited by never tried. I have spoken to the boss (Mr. Awal, a young man), and his knowledge on car detailing convinced me to give him a try.

20130303_171809

The shop is using Meguiar’s product. I actually found the shop when looking for Meguiar’s products nearby. Only then realising that a clay costs RM150, and detailer around RM100. I doubt I am going to have the time or patient to do that to all my cars. So, forget it. Let the experts earn the money they deserve.

First step is washing the car. They are quite detail in washing, I am satisfied.

Then come to the detailing job. The owner, Mr. Awal (see photo below) first use tar remover over my car. Making sure all tar or stubborn dirt are removed.

20130303_171822

Now comes the more difficult work. Waxing. Before that, I have agreed to have “Clay & Wax” package, costs RM80. This is using Meguiar’s Ultimate Wax. However, after claying, the surface remains rough. Not very smooth surface even after waxing (buff by hand).

2821_lg

It seems that either the clay is not that effective, or the overspray has been too hard / long on the surface. So the owner recommend a step up…Meguiar’s Cleaner Wax method, with machine buffing. RM120, and I negotiated till RM110.

2705_lg

Seeing the car being waxed and machine buffed, I am satisfied.

20130303_171707

The owner is very good (detail and patient), but the other staff isn’t that detail. Both of them waxing my car, so half good, the other half Great! I have to remind and do QC check myself to the other staff and Mr. Awal, so that my car is in the condition that I am satisfied.

20130303_173952

Overall, I think RM110 is well worth the job and quality done. No, don’t polish your car. Wax is different from polishing. Deep polishing will cut thin the clear liquor of your car, clay and wax don’t.

Car at home.

20130303_211948

Time spent? 3 Hours. Yes, that’s a bit long, and I was there all the time. :p

(Don’t do this at home…by yourself…)

My new Dream Car – Porsche 911 2012 model (991)

Posted by KhoKing on Wednesday Nov 21, 2012 Under Car

Yes, this is my new dream car. Hahaa…different dreams at different time…and this is the latest dream!

Gold colour, 20″ wheel, beige colour interior, 911 Carrera S…the above is own customized at Porsche UK website.

The new 2012 Porsche 911 is code named 991, and the Gold colour is the new colour introduced only to this model Making it very unique!

The best part I like about the car is the tail light. Small and slick!

Some people like to add a rear wiper to the rear window of the car, which in my opinion is ULTRA UGLY! Don’t put a rear wiper on a sport car that is so sexy on the rear!

The turbo version (in future) or the 2013 sports version has a duck tail, which again IMO is ugly. I just love the clean curvature at the rear, adding any spoiler or tail is just going to spoil it.

Porsche has revamped the interior to a more modern design (after being bought over by Volkswagen), following the Panamera design. I think the design looks modern and cool!

Around USD100k in the States, and is around UK Pound 90k as well. Translate to around RM300-500k. Malaysia new price is probably around RM800k.

US or UK price, in 10 years time maybe still can afford. Malaysia’s price…continue dreaming…or wait for new model to come out…and this model dropped half price in USED market. :p

RM90 Car Wash

Posted by KhoKing on Wednesday Nov 14, 2012 Under Car

Went for car wash today. My car has been through the recent bad weather recently. Raining almost everyday. White has become chocolate…

No favorite or satisfied car wash shop…saw one just next to my friend’s shop today while looking for him. He was late so I thought might as well wash my car there to try out the service.

Standard car wash price = RM10. Let me talk about the car wash service first. The staff started by jet spraying water on my car. I thought…not going to use bubble car wash method? I saw the staff spray and clean the entire area of my car one time…then only he started with bubble form.

Great I thought, as all the other shops that I have seen and tried spray bubble immediately and they “SCRATCH” the bubble together with whatever dirt on your car. This first round of water jet should at least clean off some bigger dirt.

Although the staff did not let the bubble settles by itself to remove the dirt, but still I am impressed. They didn’t rush to clean my car in no time…wash quite thoroughly with car.

Then I saw waxing service, RM70 (Free car wash). Hmm…not sure of the service…but the wax they use is branded Meguiars Ultimate Wax. My car’s paint is very rough (stains of dirt and sands), so I thought…let’s try and see if wax can clean it up.

After washing, I let the staff try wax my car. He started with the bonnet. Hmm…still very rough. Wax is by hand only, so there is no polishing involve…and sands remain there and swirls or scratches still there.

Then I saw on the price board “Clay adds RM20″. I have heard of claying before, but never try. Claying is said to be able to remove those rough feeling on the paint surface. RM20, should try instead of letting the rough paint stays.

So I told the worker to try on the claying method. He agreed. We started with the boot cover this time, where paint is rough there as well. Just a few minutes, man, I was impressed! Ultra smooth! I let him continue the whole car and all done in around 1 hour. Wax is not that impressive as he only apply a very thin layer. However, I am very satisfied with the smoothness of my car’s paint now.

Total I paid RM90 for the service, and I am happy with the spending. There are still some swirl marks on my car, which can only be removed from polishing, but I am very happy with the condition of my car now.

My car’s bonnet

Roof

Might send my wife’s car there tomorrow, which has the roughest paint I have ever touch! :p

Buying Used Car in Malaysia

Posted by KhoKing on Sunday Oct 7, 2012 Under Car

Some websites that post USED CAR Classified in Malaysia, just thought of sharing.

http://www.carlist.my/

One of the most popular that dedicated to car! With many listings and often show the most listings for the car that I searched.

Interface is a bit old style. Doesn’t have much photos for the classified.

http://www.mudah.my/Malaysia/Cars-for-sale-1020

The most popular classified site in Malaysia, for all sorts of item, including CAR. Quite a lot of listing, mainly posted by end user. Bad thing is that you can’t click to zoom / view larger product image.

http://www.motortrader.com.my/index.html

This one has monthly magazine that sells well in hardcopy, but their website isn’t the most popular one.

http://www.oto.my/

One of the latest that I know of. Very well done interface, modern and easy to navigate. However, for it is quite new, the number of listing are limited but is growing fast, and most listings are latest ads that still have the cars available.

Volkswagen Beetle, the 2012 Beetle, called The Beetle

Posted by KhoKing on Friday Sep 21, 2012 Under Car

Yes, no longer the New Beetle, which was the last generation beetle. The new Beetle is now called The Beetle.

Despite long history, Volkswagen Beetle is only in its 3rd generation design. Yes, the 2012 Beetle is the 3rd generation beetle from Volkswagen. Surprise, huh?!

Passed by Volkwagen showroom today, made a sudden left turn and drove straight to it. Saw a black beetle parked outside the showroom, must be the test drive model.

Was quite late at 6.30pm, salesman didn’t bother to entertain me. Walked straight to one of them, and told him “I want to see the Beetle.“.

I actually saw a red one in the showroom, later the salesman told me it is actually a new owner’s car, waiting to be picked up. Already registered.

No test drive, as it was quite late already and traffic jam outside. I went to see the black one parked outside. Quite dirty, and black is no good that shows dirt easily.

Sit inside the car, quite comfortable. The car is not that low, not a sports car type of feeling like you DROPPED or SANK into a car when you sit inside. The seat is comfortable. Good padding and cushion. Black, hmm…a bit dull. The salesman told me is leather, but I am not sure what type of leather. Genuine or synthetic…

The car is SPACIOUS. Yes, really is spacious. I even tried the back seat, plenty of head room (I am 180cm), though leg room is limited (my legs touched the back of the front seat). Just need to adjust the front seats forward a little and the car is a very practical 4 seaters. No, no space for the 5th person.

Luxurious?

No, I can’t associate the interior design of the car with the word “luxurious”. The interior design is quite simple. Maybe because of Black Color, it looks dull too. The sports steering is nice, small with some control buttons on it. The DSG gear shift stick looks good and elegant, 7 speeds DSG matched to a 1198cc TSI engine. Should be nice for city use.

The Beetle box is plasticky.

The LCD entertainment / info system looks OK. I don’t have time to try out the setting. Looks clear, good and huge on first impression. LCD not very big though.

The interior is best matched with colour like below, not BLACK.

Exterior?

Yes, it is a Beetle. Maybe because of the color, Black, I don’t feel particularly excited about the car. It should be an exciting car, and an exciting car should be in exciting color! Not Black for sure. Though it is metalic black, but still it looks dull with dirt (rain stains). The design is nice, OK, maybe I have seen too many photos of it online. The boot is spacious. The 16″ RIM design is normal, nothing exciting, wrapped in Bridgestone tyre. There is a space saver tyre in the boot, with Continental tyre wrapped.

No LED light in front, which is the biggest let down. I guess they want to distinguish the 1.2, 1.4 from the 2.0 easily, with only the 2.0Turbo has LED lights.

Did I mention a red Beetle inside the showroom? Yes, I went to check it out too. Just exterior only. Not nice to sit inside a brand new car that belongs to somebody already. Not metalic red, solid red only. So for me the color is a bit dull too.

Then, the salesman told me there is a BROWN colour available in their showroom too, as asked if I am interested to see. Sure!

He drove me to look for the car, yes, drove me with his car to look for that brown Beetle. It was parked at the back of their showroom, in the parking lot next to their workshop. Metalic brown, more like BRONZE color. Nice I must say. Better than the Black and Red. Very shinny eventhough it is parked outside with some dirt on it. Dirt is not very visible on the car. The interior is having the matching color as per the exterior. Is Brown an exciting color? Not for me, but I think it matches the Beetle well as an ANTIC CLASSIC.

(1.2TSI doesn’t come with spoiler at the back. No sunroof too.)

The lucky owner just book the car on the 5th September 2012 and he already gotten the car now!“, told the salesman. Why so fast? Brown was not in their initial offering, hence no pre-order for it and they only start taking order for Brown when it is available. So some lucky buyers got to get the car immediately. Other colours waiting period is 3-6 months.

For me, I think the best color for the Beetle is YELLOW, followed by WHITE.

Price? RM139,888. OTR should be around RM145k. That’s for the 1.2TSI. 1.4TSI should be around 170k and 2.0TSI should be RM200k+.

No, I am not buying one. Still, it is fun to look at one.

Peugeot 508 & RCZ

Posted by KhoKing on Friday Aug 24, 2012 Under Car

Went to service my 407…waited 2 hours there…so might as well check out the cars there. Not many variants…and two of my favorites!

Both are dark colour, and no…not my favorite colour. Can see scratches easily.

Peugeot 508

A very nice car the Peugeot 508. Interior design is modern. Price from RM140k+ to RM170k+, depending on specs. All same engine (1600cc for Petrol or 2000cc for Diesel). I heard most are buying the RM170k+ variant.

Me? No, am not buying.

Peugeot RCZ

Not black, but charcoal black, or something like dark grey. A very nice design car, won the title of best design of the year in 2010 and 2011.

RM220k, most are buying the Automatic Transmission version (156hp), what a waste. Must go for the manual version (200hp), but the salesman said there is no more stock for manual version, and all their newly arriving stocks are all AT type. I guess it is not easy to sell such car…most who can afford are family guys…and 2+2 seats are just not enough.

Anyhow…sweet dream…can drive a Ferrari 458 in dream…

Self Car Windscreen Repair

Posted by KhoKing on Saturday Jul 7, 2012 Under Car

In Malaysia, there is a special insurance call “Windscreen Insurance” for your car. It is not included in your mandatory car insurance, and your mandatory car insurance does not include the windscreen coverage. Meaning, if your car windscreen got hit by a rock and need replacement, you can’t claim from your car insurance.

My car windscreen got hit by an UFO (Unidentified Flying Object) recently. I think is from a lorry driving in front of me on the right lane. I was already trying to keep some distance from it, still…saw an UFO flying towards me and the next thing I see is a small chip on my car windscreen. Not big, just 1mm chip or ding, but is sure heart pain. Together with the other two digs I got few weeks back on the side glass, total 3 dings.

No, I am not going to replace the glass just because of the dings. Checking out ebay and there are lots of different windscreen repairer available. Bought one at less than USD9.95 (free shipping), and I got the repair kit a week later.

Today only I got the free time and mood to repair my windscreen and side glasses. Have yet to see the result, as it takes UV light to cure or harden the gel. Raining and cloudy outside. So will leave it there for long before I wipe the windscreen or glass again.
