Passover is one of the most important incident for all who believes in God. Christians believe the old testament in the Bible as well, how God saves His people from Egypt.

Passover 2009 is from 8th ~ 16th April 2009. To remember this season, I have designed an unique banner for ShaShinKi logo. It has been a long time that I did not do this festival / season logo design. Thank God, I got the simple idea to just paint the blood over the door of ShaShinKi, in remembrance of the Bible teaching. Personally I quite like this design, simple but delivering the message clearly.

Still the best video conferencing software in the world. Tried Google video, yahoo video…etc., MSN though not perfect but still is among the best in delivering video quality.

I miss them both.

I bought two Logitech QuickCam® Family E3500 webcam for the above purpose, which I am quite happy with the quality of them. Delivering good quality photo (in Malaysia slow internet line service), good exposure and white balance.

The cam can be placed on the monitor screen easily, but no securely. No clip, but a V shape stand (can be adjusted) to put on the monitor. The design is fine, as clip sometimes does not match thick monitor.

Beware! Fake Nikon EN-EL3e Battery!

Today I read about some discussions of fake Nikon EN-EL3e being sold in Malaysia, at price not much different from ORIGINAL!

Here’s the picture comparison of the genuine and fake batteries:

So, how much is fake battery selling in the market IN MALAYSIA? From what I heard, RM150.00. Original new Nikon EN-EL3e is selling at RM175.00 at ShaShinKi:

Fake EN-EL3e is not being sold at very low price, the reason is simple. They want you to believe that it is ORIGINAL, but cheaper than what you can get from other dealers who are selling genuine Nikon EN-EL3e.

So, what is the down side of getting a fake battery?

You pay $$$ but not getting the original. Third party EN-EL3e battery is selling at around RM75. You have paid doubled the price.
Third party made EN-El3e might not be compatible with all Nikon DSLRs. Eg. the latest Nikon D90 requires only original Nikon EN-EL3e to work. Some 3rd party maker already modified their chip to make it suitable for D90.
Original Nikon EN-EL3e battery will last longer and have longer life-time.
Warranty of your camera void if the battery leaks or if Nikon found out you are using 3rd party battery.

Not all third party batteries are bad. There are still good third party brands, but if you are paying RM150, make sure you are getting the original Nikon EN-EL3e and not double the price of what you paid for the third party brand.

Got my house key…God is good!

Got my house key two days ago (Tuesday).

God is good! I only have to pay the overdue charges of around RM750! So much lower than I initially expected! The developer gave me 25% discount from the original price of RM10xx. They minus out all the holidays, hence the final fine becomes low.

Thank God for the saving.

Got the keys. 3 sets all together. One set has around 9 keys.

Next…waiting for renovation to start. I think still need to wait for 2-3 months before I can actually move in.

By the way, have also applied for water and electric facilities. Might take 1-4 weeks as according to the developer to install those two things, depending on the applications SAJ Holdings Sdn Bhd and TNB, so nothing can be done now (or no rush at the moment). Water deposit is RM90, while electric is RM280 + some other fees (I paid RM400 + RM10 stamp duty). Not exactly sure why the RM400, but will check the bill later.

Have the urge to move immediately to my new house…my very first and own house…home of my family (Lydia, Megumi and I). God is good, God is so good to me.

Going to get my house key soon…should be Monday or Tuesday next week. Will have to pay some penalty to the developer though, as they only give me 3 months to get the payment to them and it has been over 4 months now. It is around RM70 per day, so will need to pay around RM3k penalty.

The good side, finally…after such a long wait…let’s celebrate!

BlogMalaysia - Moved to Malaysia’s Server!

Managed to move BlogMalaysia website to Malaysia’s local hosted server. Loading speed is much faster now for those who surf from Malaysia. Since it is BlogMalaysia, our main audiences are from Malaysia, so the move.

That should also speed up my time to review and approve submitted blogs to BlogMalaysia.

iPhone 3G Officially Landed in Malaysia! Under Maxis…

Just read the news today. IPhone has finally landed in Malaysia, under Maxis exclusive plan. Sorry, no other line provider in Malaysia will have iPhone from Apple.

BlogMalaysia Statistics

I plan to move BlogMalaysia to my Malaysia server, which is powered by Direct Admin and has no AWSTATS software installed. So I decided to take a screenshot of BlogMalaysia statistics before I migrate the data over.

BlogMalaysia has grown to become the largest blog directory in Malaysia, in a year + time and over 3.6k blogs in our directory and growing by around 30-50 blogs daily.

We have around 23k unique visitors in Feb 2009, which is around 780 unique visitors daily. Thanks you bloggers!

Family Outing - Taiping Zoo on 8th March 2009 (Sunday)

We have a family outing at Taiping Zoo yesterday.

At the entrance before going in. Ticket is RM8 for kids (3-8years old), RM12 for adults and RM10 for senior citizens (age 55 and above). The ticket counter said Taiping locals have RM4 discount…but we honestly tell her that we are not. Let’s support the local zoo.

We have to queue for the free tour car.

5th Year Wedding Anniversary

Yesterday was the 5th Year Wedding Anniversary of my wife and I. My wife bought a cake for celebration…

Sorry, cake got “damaged” a bit during car break.

Still delicious lah…and you can see Megumi can’t wait to taste it out already…hahaa…

My dream toy…Denon AH-D7000

I tried the Denon AH-D2000 in Japan. Got hook to it. Was around JPY30k (RM1k) last year. Did not get it as it is quite expensive for a headphone. I tried quite a number of headphones. Denon AH-D2000 stands out among them. Clarify is superb, even better than those more expensive Sony, Audio Technical or Pioneer headphones. I tested the same song with various headphones, Denon AH-D2000 delivered the best quality, clarify and stable sound.

Read about the Denon AH-D7000 in the internet, best in the series. Ok, I will put it as my dream toy now. RM4k for a headphone. I will need to stick it to my head all the time.

AH-D2000 on the other hand seems more down to earth and affordable…will get one when the chance come.

How to Become a Successful Affiliate? (success = earn more $$$)

How many how good or how many visitors your site has, if nobody clicks on your affiliate link, or if some clicks but did not complete the purchase at the merchant’s site, then you are getting no money.What is successful? Let’s get more down to earth. Success = achieving your goal. Goal = Earn $$$ in Affiliate program. You will only get paid when your visitors click and bought things from your Affiliate merchant.

How to become a successful Affiliate?

You will want your visitors to purchase the items from your Affiliate partner. You will want your visitors to complete the deal. You will want your visitors to convince that the item/s that he/she saw is worth buying. Instead of just putting up a banner of your Affiliate partner on your website, a more effective way would be to talk and discuss about it!

1. If you owned a blog, create a post to talk about your new Affiliate. Convince your visitors why you join the program and how reliable the merchant is. Share your shopping experience with your visitors.

2. Select and post up some interesting products from the merchant sites that you have purchase or might want to introduce. You can just use any image from the merchant site and embedded it with a link with your ref number on it to the merchant’s product page. Eg. of link with your Affiliate Ref. ID on it, and link to a specific product (products_id=1488): http://shashinki.com/shop/product_info.php?ref=1&products_id=1488

3. DO NOT SPAM. Do not create bad name or impression by sending mass emails to your friends or strangers with the embedded Affiliate Reference ID on the link / banner. SPAMMING created very bad impression, which will be very hard to get clean up.

4. Put the Affiliate banner on a good location on your website. A banner is only as good as when people saw and click on it. You are not earning from impression, but from the actual sales that have been concluded.

5. Suggest any new idea to the merchant (We, ShaShinKi, listen!). Work together with the merchant to improve the conversion rate (from click to actual sales).

6. Get rid of the negative thinking of “I don’t want to promote too much…not worth for me to promote…etc.”. If you can’t, then you should remove yourself from joining the Affiliate Program. You will not get paid unless a deal is closed. You will need to promote as hard as you can in order to close a deal.

Let’s hope that the above tips can help promote and generate more sales to all Affiliates participating in ShaShinKi!

Moved Server Data - USA to Malaysia (Over 11GB!)

Last week has been a hectic week for me. The recent slow internet connection of Streamyx to oversea server (especially US servers) has brought forward my plan of migrating the data of my USA server back to Malaysia.

There were over 11GB of data that needs to be transferred, for ShaShinKi.com alone. With the slow internet connections, it is quite impossible for me to use FTP or even SSH to do the data transfer via Streamyx line.

With the assistance from my Malaysia server provider (www.ipserverone.com), all ShaShinKi data was migrated successfully! Lee and Lee (Kenji) from IPServerOne have been of great help, assisting without asking for a cent! I have a dedicated server with them, but that does not warrant this kind of support from them. They do it volunteeringly, which really touches my heart. My server provider in USA on the other hand is money minded. Unmanaged server. Server rental cost has increased for at least 2 times, over 50% increment in the last 3 years. I can get a Intel Xeon powered server with RAID setting from IPServerOne for the money I paid to my US server provider.

Did I mention how fast is the server I have with IPServerOne now? Yes, VERY FAST! Accessing files on my server is like accessing files on my local hard drive (Ok, maybe a little slower). This is miles improvement as comparing to accessing my files on my USA server. My e-commerce site (http://shashinki.com) now flies! Yes, even on the slowmix line!

Photo / picture loading time has been extremely fast and smooth as well. I am glad that I have made the migration earlier, though the USA server I have paid the rental till Oct 2009 (can’t get back the money), but still it is better for me to move now than later.

I still have some of my sites in my USA server, eg. PentaxWorld.com. As that is an international site with members mostly from oversea, so I think it is better for us to continue having it on my USA server than moving it to Malaysia. Perhaps after Oct 2009, before the next bill of my USA server.

Generate more CLICKS from Adsense? How?

I have been using Adsense for over a year, on the biggest photography forum in Malaysia - www.photomalaysia.com.

Performance of Adsense has been quite disappointing to me. There are less than 50 clicks per day (we have around 7000-9000 unique visitors per day). No, publisher is NOT allowed to invite his/her members to click on the ads, that will lead to your account being terminated.

I have heard story of bloggers getting USD1000 or even more per month from Adsense. I only get about USD120 per month. What went wrong?

I am still experimenting different ads banners and locations. Recently I introduced 250×250 px square banner to my forum and I noticed some increment in clickthrough. I need to experiment more…but if you have some tips or experience to share, please post a reply. Thanks!
