Internet Disruption - Submarine cable in the Middle East has been snapped!

Three out of 4 cables in the Middle East connecting to the world has been cut off for unknown reason. No ship activity has been detected around the area during the cut off. The cut off remains a mystery to many…but I believe the authorities should have some insight info that is not for the public to know…

Here’s now the cable looks like:

In Malaysia, we do not feel much different, unlike the early year disruption/cut off which have severely affected the internet connection to the west. Still, there should be some network congestion or slowness around the globe till end of this year. Full service should be resumed by 31st December 2008, before the new year of 2009.

Beware when buying gold…916 means 91.6% pure

Read a news today and some shops might sell under quality gold to consumers and cheat.

916 gold should have at least 91.6% of gold content inside, but some shops tend to mix it with other material and have less than 91.6% gold content.

One of the example as in the news below is Baalaji Jewellers in Little India in Singapore.

Singapore did a good job by doing random checking and publish the name of the shop to the public. In Malaysia, we never know…and never will know… :(

I bought a fridge! Refrigerator! Sharp SHP-SJPT71RHS

I bought a fridge few weeks ago during Jusco Member Day. Was looking for a big fridge for my new house (house not ready soon), initially want a Panasonic model with invertor technology for power saving, but the size available is too small (400L gross capacity). Was about to give up…then suddenly one of the salesman introduce me to this Sharp model, which has the power saving feature as well (30% power saving as according to the ads).

The model is Sharp SHP-SJPT71RHS, which I think is the largest model in the series (2 doors type), and the capacity is 660L gross capacity. Definitely MUCH bigger than the Panasonic model that I was looking at.

Paid around RM2690 I think…with some free coupons from Jusco for member day promotion (thousands of people there…you can’t believe the economy is on the down turn…).

Ok…settled with the fridge…still headache for TV. LCD or Plasma? Samsung? Sharp? Sony? Panasonic? …

Nikon D3X - the Camera that will SHAKE the world!

Finally…after so many rumors…after so many months of waiting…people said before Olympic Beijing…nevermind…now it is true…from Nikon the news…let’s welcome the D3X!

There is no price for Malaysia market yet…but in Japan, price has already been announced and it is a hefty JPY900k street price! With perhaps a 10% discount or point rebate, you still have to pay JPY810k for it, which I believe is the MOST expensive DSLR among Nikon, Canon and Sony. Ok…for Malaysia buyers, no price yet from Nikon Malaysia or Nikon Singapore, but based on D3 price, I am guessing that the D3X would be priced at around RM25k-27k. Which is around the price range of Canon 1Ds Mark III.

I believe the sensor used in Nikon D3X is same as the one used in Sony D700, which is priced at only RM12k+, yeah…so much cheaper than the other full frame DSLR. Sony D700 suddenly sounds so cheap and affordable…and attractive!

Not much changes or new features in D3X that I can notice…no…I don’t remember any…should be using the exact same feature and body as D3, except with a bigger sensor… :P

Am I going to buy one? No…for sure…no…I have a bigger and more interesting commitment in front…a house…yeah…a home. :)
