Nikon SB-900 Speedlight / Flash - Initial Impression…a short “review”?

I have the chance to play with Nikon SB-900 speedlight yesterday. Did some simple test and play with it…compared with my SB-800, here’s some of my thought…

The SB-900 is HUGE! Significantly BIGGER and LARGER and LONGER than Nikon SB-800. This is definitely not an advantage of the new flash…besides not so easy to get lost…

Here are some photo comparison of the two flashes side by side:
Left = SB-800 ; Right = SB-900

As you can see in the photos above, the LCD of SB-900 is significantly larger as well, with more information being shown. The flash head is so much bigger and longer than SB-800, I guess that is mainly due to the 200mm flash zoom gear in the head. (more…)

Megumi fever - 39.1 degree C

Megumi got fever today…we went to see doctor just now and the temperature was 39.1 degree C! Her body and head are very hot…but she can still smile and very active.

Doctor said should be one type of common virus infection, the symtom will continue for 3-4 days. No medicine for it…should just wait and monitor. As long as she can play and eat and sleep well, then fine.

May God be with Megumi and protect her…and protect Megumi’s mother as well…as she got cold now…in Jesus name I prayed, amen.

Canon PowerShot G9 Discontinued? G10 on the way?

I just found out today that Canon has discontinued / stopped production of Canon WP-DC21 underwater casing for Canon G9, which means that Canon G9 should has stopped production or discontinued?

G9 was announced on 20th August 2007, about a year old model…which is actually still quite new I would say. However, for digital camera…their life is usually quite short. In comparison, Canon G7 was announced on 14th September 2006, 11 months later G9 was announced. So it is about time for a new replacement model for G9 now.

What can we expect for the G9 replacement model? Here’s my speculations:

• High Resolution LCD (3.0″)
• Dual Digic IIII  Engine
• ISO 3200 + ISO 6400
• 14MP Sensor
• 24mm (135 format equivalent) wide angle lens

Should be seeing the news in the coming Photokina 2008 (September).

Megumi with handyplus on face…

Took this photo the next day after the accident…the nurse did not do a good job when sticking the handyplus…Megumi’s eyebrows were stuck on the handyplus initially…

This it the photo after we removed the handyplus (same day as above picture), after taking bath…summer time now…really hot…have to take bath every day…

Thank God, Megumi is fine now…and we will be more careful with her…

Megumi fell down today…heart pains…

Megumi fell down just now…hurt her face badly with some bloods…hit the edge of wooden bed…

Lydia was so very worry and cried together with the baby….

We called our brother and sister nearby, asked them to check for the nearest hospital that is still in operation…as it was around 9pm already and most clinics are closed…

Megumi stopped crying after around 15 mins…but it must be really hurt…hurt Lydia heart a lot…as she was (is) very worried…

We went to the hospital together with our brother and sister here in Saijyo (thanks Lee Ming and Wan Jing), doctor checked and said Megumi should be fine, since there is no vomiting or big swallow. The cut was under the right eye, above the cheek, on the face bone there. Must be really painful…doctor cleaned the wound and the nurse put a handyplus on it.

Thank God Megumi is fine…it is my careless for not taking care of her much…Lydia was doing some housework…sorry dear…

Hope Megumi will recover soon, and leave no scar or wound. God with her…God with us…in Jesus name I prayed, amen.

What so unique about the Panasonic LX series? The impressive and only in the world panoramic view 16:6 CCD and LCD, which captures like no others! 10MP resolution, ISO 80-3200, 2.5fps, etc., this should be everything one would needed in today’s digicam. (more…)

Saw the Titan yesterday…yeah…Minolta Alpha / Maxxum 9Ti

Produced in year 1999, limited production. Some said 500 units in Japan, some said 400 units worldwide, some said 1000 units worldwide…not sure…but what I am sure of is that it is definitely a hard to find limited production and most sort after Minolta film SLR.

Some photos I found from a Japanese store:

The limited edition comes in a nice presentation box (red silk cloth inside) with a brown colour genuine leather strap.

I am not a Minolta fans, but still I am quite tempted to get this one myself. My local shop has a display set unit for sale, price quite reasonable…new one was selling at around USD3000 in year 1999, sadly…camera doesn’t appreciate over time (except Leica), and Minolta 9Ti is currently at around US$2k in the market for an used one. Mint or like new might still be able to fetch high price, but is very rare and hard to find nowadays.

Should I get one? Maybe I should…

Chinese name in journal…

Chinese name can be confusing to many…especially those from the west.

My full name is Koh Kho King, many got confused which is my family name. Is it Koh or King? Those from the West often called me Mr. King, and I got my first paper published with my name wrongly written as K. K. King.

I just got my second technical paper proof read (already accepted last year). Again there is a mistake in the name…so this time I did some search online and found the more appropriate way of writing Chinese name. Hence I amended this to my 2nd paper, as definitely need to get my family name and first name correct.

Here’s how a Chinese should identify their names:

Kho-King KOH

Yes, put a hyphen in between the two sounds of your first name, and write your family name in CAPITAL LETTER. You can now be sure that people will know your family name correctly.

Google Adsense now with FLASH ads!

Yes, you read the title right. I just noticed few days ago that Google is now delivering FLASH banner ads to their customers! Yes, that includes me.

Flash ads has been so popular and common in advertising world nowadays. Small file size but able to deliver amazing effect and attract much more attention than static or GIF animated ads.

No, not all sites are now flashed, it depends if an advertiser wants to put his or her flash ads on your site or not. I guess the price for flash ads isn’t going to be cheap…but the gain back is definitely worth it.

Let’s hope more will notice the ads…good for both advertiser and publisher.

Passed my PhD Oral Examination!

Yeah! I passed my PhD Oral Examination on 04 July 2008 (Friday)!

My presentation was at 10am, one hour. I used up almost all the one hour, or slightly over (65 mins). Q&A for around 30 mins, and I passed!

Thank God and may all glory to my Heavenly Father!

I enter Hiroshima University on 03 October 2005. Been in Japan for nearly 3 years…life is really good here. My wife and my daughter (made in Japan) are here with me. God’s grace is abandone and I have even managed to start up ShaShinKi.com business while I am in Japan.

Time flies…soon I will be going back to Malaysia to start another new life. I am sure I will miss Japan a lot…and might come to Japan again in future.

Before coming to Japan, people have said and commented that studying in Japan is tough. After experiencing myself, I must say that it is not easy, but also mainly depends on your supervisor (sensei). Work hard, time is all I have.

Thank God once again for all His guidance and grace! In Jesus Christ name, Amen.

Nikon SB-900 Speedlight and Nikon PC-E 45mm F/2.8

Two photos…

Don’t see much changes from SB-800 from the front view…don’t have the rear view at the moment…but I am sure very soon we will see it…price? 429 euros (RM2,208.50). Street price should be lower, but I think it should still be significantly higher than SB-800.

SB-900 is more mean for full frame FX DSLR.

Interesting normal micro lens. Should be good for product shots. FX compatible.

More Photos of Nikon D700…

There isn’t any reason for us NOT to believe that Nikon D700 is real now…

Yeah…FX format…same sensor resolution as Nikon D3, 12.1MP (are they sharing the same sensor? Probably, as the ISO range is same from 200-6400 as well).

I think it shares the same hard coated glass LCD screen as Nikon D3. There is no catch for external cover for it like in D300…

Weather sealed…reminds me of Nikon F6…looks like a professional camera with external battery pack.

Not any smaller with MB-D10 as compared to D3 (right). Ok, taller but less wide.

Now…what will be the price? Some said USD4000 MSRP (convert from Euro pound), but I think that is way too high. I would rather go for D3 if D700 is only marginally cheaper.

Nevermind, wait first…not that I can get one now even if I have the USD4000…
