I read an interesting news at lowyat.net:
http://www.lowyat.net/v2/latest/is-yahoo-worth-us-50-billion-2.html
Microsoft set into motion the next step of their plan in which they hope to eventually dominate the search and advertising by first making an offer to with Yahoo for a possible acquisition that could be worth $50 billion, according to a report from Forbes. This move is possibly a reaction to the increasing pressure Microsoft is facing to effectively compete in the online advertising space, even more so after the largely publicized bidding war recently between Microsoft and Google for DoubleClick, one of the internet advertising giants of today. Eventually, Google won and settled with DoubleClick for roughly $3.1 billion. What’s more, Yahoo had recently announced its acquisition of online advertising firm Right Media for $680 million. While US$680 Million is chump change compared to the US$3.1 Billion Google spent on DoubleClick, the move showed that Yahoo was willing to invest in becoming, and in fact already is a significant presence in online advertising. Of course, there’s also the issue of the market in the search industry. With Microsoft currently sitting in third place behind Yahoo and Google, the successful acquisition of Yahoo by Microsoft would give Google the first really significant threat in a long time.
Personal Comments:
As an internet user, I use Google on my daily search nowadays. I use Gmail as my main email. I use Analytics for my website statistics. I use Products (previously Froogle) for my online store. I use Sitemap for google to take a more details look of my sites. I use Google Earth for searching of maps and location of a place.
I was an Adsense user, until they banned me… :’(
Google has dominated my internet life. Microsoft and Yahoo are both facing the pressure, they are loosing out market share daily…and Google stock has gone higher and higher.
Is Yahoo worth US$50 billions? Hmm…initially I thought that would be a bit cheap, as Yahoo is a company as of similar status as Google. The potential is huge.
However, on a second thought…do you need US$50 billions to setup another Google? If you have the idea, or use the US$50 billions investment, you might be able to create another Google…or you might not. I don’t think I am smart enough for that… ![]()

After 4 months 10 days since its birth, PentaxWorld has gotten its first advertiser!
The advertiser is an author of the Pentax K10D book, with link as stated above. I spent some time to make a banner for the advertiser, as I find the original banner that he sent me is a bit plain.
Here’s the banner that I designed:
So, how much made? Not much actually, US$50 per month and the advertiser subscribed for one month period (6th May 2007 ~ 7th June 2007). I do hope that he will continue subscribing in the coming months.
Getting an advertiser means PentaxWorld is now being recognized by others. This is a big encouragement as I have put in a lot of effort in designing and making PentaxWorld better and better each day.
I have also noticed that these few days PentaxWorld has many visitors and new signed up members. Google still don’t index much of PentaxWorld forum’s threads or posts, so promoting PentaxWorld still requires a lot of members’ link and word of mouth. I think at the moment dpreview.com is still the biggest referral site to PentaxWorld. Though PentaxWorld.com has been banned at dpreview (dpreview doesn’t allow other forums to be at their sites), but members still can post PentaxWorld without the .com at the back and it will not be filtered. So, from time to time some members at dpreview do still post reference and links to PentaxWorld.
I have also registered and created a sister’s domain: PentaxWorld.net that will link to PentaxWorld.com.
Goodnight for now… ![]()

Another three of my websites are now having PageRank 3!
http://oy-oy.eu/google/pr/?url=http%3a%2f%2fpentaxworld.com&#r
http://oy-oy.eu/google/pr/?url=http%3a%2f%2fcapturesg.com&#r
http://oy-oy.eu/google/pr/?url=http%3a%2f%2fecmalaysia.com&#r
Some said PageRank is useless nowadays. Is it really useless? Personally I still believe there are useful, as Google is still using PageRank to rate the importance of their indexed sites. There might be more and many websites indexed by Google nowadays, hence PageRank 3 might not mean much…but at least it still give an indicator to webmaster how importance the sites in Google’s eyes. Websites with PageRank 5 or higher definitely mean they are of more importance and will show up more frequently in Google search.

Google has ranked ShaShinKi.com as a Page Rank 4 website now!
It was still Page Rank 3 last month and many months before. I remember it has a mixed of Page Rank 3 and 4 few months ago, but suddenly drops to all Page Rank 3 one or two months ago. Two days ago, it has a mixed of PR3 and PR4 again, but weighted more towards PR3 (so average still a PR3 site).
Just a few minutes ago, I checked again with 43 unique datacenter of Google and it has FULL PR4 ranking! Where do I checked?
http://oy-oy.eu/google/pr/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fshashinki.com

Hurray!!!
What is PageRank?
Here’s a quote from Wikipedia:
PageRank is a link analysis algorithm that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of “measuring” its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. The numerical weight that it assigns to any given element E is also called the PageRank of E and denoted by PR(E).
PageRank was developed at Stanford University by Larry Page (hence the name Page-Rank[1]) and Sergey Brin as part of a research project about a new kind of search engine. The project started in 1995 and led to a functional prototype, named Google, in 1998. Shortly after, Page and Brin founded Google Inc., the company behind the Google search engine. While just one of many factors which determine the ranking of Google search results, PageRank continues to provide the basis for all of Google’s web search tools.[2]
The name PageRank is a trademark of Google. The PageRank process has been patented (U.S. Patent 6,285,999 ). The patent is not assigned to Google but to Stanford University.
